Hey guys, just thought I'd post this quick how to on how I did the scales that i'm putting on my marines, this wasn't the best one I've done, somehow managed to stab myself in the hand earlier today, so I'll repost in a few days with better quality pictures. But; for now, here goes

Tools of the trade: Sculpting tool, hobby knife and of course. green stuff

Knead your green stuff and flatten it out like so. You want it thin, but not too thin, so you have something to work with.

Wrap it around the pad

Trim off excess

With the sculpting tool, smooth off any fingerprints and then carve a small scale into the middle area, i generally use a pentagon or a hexagon for the first one

Then branch it out like so

Start filling out the rest of the scales, i use different shapes and sizes to try and avoid them all looking too uniform.

And voila, scaled shoulder pads.
This one still needs some work, which i'll do when it dries, just file off any messy parts later.

Ignore this guy's blue-tacked leg and rock, he's a WIP. Just wanted to show what the scales look like on a model.

Hey man this a good tutorial. Very clever. Id like to see a whole marine covered in these scales.

That seems really simple! I haven't done any sculpting with green stuff yet (in part because I don't think I'd be any good at it) but this looks like an easy thing to manage.

well this was the first thing i tried to do with it aside from basic gap fills, and it's pretty damn easy
just need a good pointy sculpting tool and a fair amount of patience
