Dual plasma pistols on assault marines to represent plasma guns?
It would look way cooler, and I actually HAVE plasma pistols I can use for this

So long as all the assault marines with Plasma guns have the dual plasma pistols then sure, sounds real cool. Give them awesome running and gunning poses

Not at all, sounds like it would cool. Though you'd have to be sure the opponent knew what it was and was alright with it before the game.

Definitely, I always tell my opponent if something is weird. For example, I gave my tac sergeant a hand flamer + bolter, and just counts-as a combi-flamer. Nobody has a problem with it.

I have actually done the same (both with the ppistols and the flamer)... I also have meltas next to the back pack as combi-meltas.

My buddy plays Sarge with 2 plasma pistols and it looks wicked awesome. I'd go for it - just pose them flying through the air sideways, John Woo style!

I've had similar ideas. Go for it. If assault Marines have plasma guns they're not charging though, which is kind of a bummer.
