I have got an army list in the making, which includes a predator. I think they are good but before buying one I wanted to know what Dakka thinks about them.

How are you kitting it? Anti-Tank or Anti-infantry? What flavor of Marines are you running, Codex,Blood,Black,Wolves,Chaos,Angels,DA

Codex marines. I wasn't going to kit it out until I knew what I was facing. If I was in a tourney, TL lascannon turret w/ HB sponsons or autocannon turret and Lascannon sponsons.

Preds are a pretty solid choice and flexible in their roles. Apparently best to magnetise them ofcourse

Lascannon turret with HB sponsons is not good. If it's shooting infantry, it's wasting that lascannon, and if it's shooting tanks those bolters aren't doing jack. Best is to either gear it for anti infantry (autocannon, heavy bolter sponsons) or for anti tank, with an autocannon and lascannon sponsons. The twin linked lascannon turret is stupidly expensive and generally not worth the extra points.

I have a dread which doesn't have the weapons attached at all but it works fine.

No typo, was pred(ator). Was more thinking for the sponsons so you're not gluing stuff in place, save you a tidy sum at todays costs

I meant predators. Just stick the weapons on the side like you wpuld on a dread.

With BA, they're awesome. With Vanilla, they are OK, I use AC/LCs. With SW, why in the name of the emperor are you bothering with predators here? Get some vindicators or some long fangs!
