Question about the values people (myself included) post in their signatures.

The values you use are base point models, or loaded with all kinds of stuff like extra weapons, magic items, special rules etc?
Meaning, an Orc lord is about 150 points but if you load him up with magic weapons he goes up to 250 points. An Orc Boy is 6 pts but loaded with extra weapons and upgraded to Big 'Uns they cost 10 pts each. Add the cost of command groups or magic standards and a unit costing 120 points (20 Orcs base, no extras at all) suddenly costs 285.

So what is your opinion on this?

I write down the value of the list i usually use. So its neither full loadout nor bare bones; its the equippment you actually use

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

Mine is usually based on how the models are physically represented.

So my nominal "SM Captain" with relic blade and storm shield in Artificer armour would be the points value used (SM capt+rb+AA+ss).
If he was in terminator armour, bike, etc, it would be a different cost.

Last time I calculated it, I put them all on the table, arranged them into groups, and then calculated the points-per-unit, and added them all up to get to the total.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

I can't speak for anyone else, but in my sig, all the values are calculated using the cost of however the models are actually built. If an ork nob is equipped with a power klaw, then that's how many points he is worth. I don't include the value of non-visible upgrades (like going from a weirdboy to warphead).

When I finish models, I add them to a spreadsheet as shown (actual values censored since gee-dubs doesn't like anyone showing their secret sauce)

So I'm not using the numbers in the "spare gear" column - just the base cost plus equipped wargear. If I made killa kans with all the weapon options, the value will be the one I generally field them with - the spreadsheet is because my friends don't have many models, so I keep it in a shared dropbox so they can build from what I have. I give them upgrades like grot riggers or whatever, those aren't in my sig.

I add them to the sheet to keep track, then I update my army profile on Dakka, then my signature. That's how I do it.

EDIT: Have further obfuscated the sheet per moderator request.

Err, you should be blocking the individual points there, not the total points.

I don't post values but heads alone to represent armies.

Most would range from 1k to 2,5k and one even beyond 12k if listed WYSIWYG.
I'd keep the value as 'playable' list size if I am ever to change that policy. So 1500 for example listed but 1500+x available in models.

This is how I got my totals. The results being the most expensive list I can make with my models.

Orkses 1848 - Kr'aag da Krazy's Mob
SM 1906 - 2nd Company Black Consuls
Tau 1850 - Eoro'Gal Ka'Lissera (Recon Cadre)
Eldar 1002 - Wife's Warriors. . .

That's what I did as well. The numbers in my signature are what I have painted and WYSIWYG. Just seemed the easiest way to work it.

- Deathskullz - 6000 points
- Order of the Sacred Rose - 2000 points

Mine are based on if I were to field the entirety of that army in its current configuration, with the "most likely" one being what I use. I then round that number up or down to allow for various options to be represented.

Rokugnar Eldar (6500) - Wolves of Excess (2000) - Marines Diagnostica (2200)

I take all the units in my army, and then equip them the way they are typically equipped (eg, my Wolf Lord, Grey Hunters, Gaunts, etc all have specific loadouts which I almost always use). If I wanted to min/max out everything though then I'd probably have between 4500-6000pts of Space Wolves and 2000-2700pts of Tyranids.

The thread below mostly refers to how many points-in-sig are painted, but in the later pages (2-3), many people comment on the issue of how they figure their points values.
