Hi All.

I'm just getting back into the hobby after a long hiatus. I started playing in the 90s with the 2nd Edition starter set (BA vs. Orks). I recently got the Assault on Black Reach set and am getting busy with prepping the models for painting and learning the 5th Edition rules. I plan to bring back my Crimson Fists, but I also want to collect an Eldar force.

I was at a 1/2 Price book store and happened upon what I believe to be the most recent Eldar codex for $7.00, so I happily picked it up. I notice that the copyright date is 2006, but the 5th Edition rule set came out in 2008.

So, was the Eldar codex really two years old when the current rules were released? If so, is there any news on when an updated codex might be out? I'm new to the current rules, so if the Eldar codex is still competitive just let me know. I remember "codex creep" from previous editions, but I don't know enough about this edition to tell if the Eldar codex has been left behind. If the Eldar aren't generally competitive, I'll probably just focus on my Crimson Fists until a new codex gets released.

My area doesn't have much in the way of tabletop gaming. I have to drive around 45 minutes to get to a larger city that has game stores and tables for gaming, so I don't have any real world observations on the current game.

Thanks for any input.

Eldar were one of the last codices to be updated before the 5th ed rules came out for them. They still work decently however despite the changes to the rules since 4th.

the next codex may be Eldar in slot Q1 (where GK's were this year) so you might be in luck

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll focus on my Crimson Fists for awhile and maybe pick up a few Eldar models here and there. I was pleasantly surprised to see that GW finally made a kit for the Wave Serpent. I may pick up a couple of those and take my time painting them and some guardian squads.

Yep, they finally made a kit for the WS - they are getting slower at it.

The Falcon and vyper were in the 2nd ed codex - but no models until a while later. The fire prism was a WD addition (like the night spinner) - but at least it got it in the same rules edition release (unlike shining spears).
