Hi everyone. I'm new around here, and as promised in the Introductions forum I'm posting some of my first 40k minis to get some constructive criticism, pointers, etc. As mentioned elsewhere, I've painted a few minis in the past, but never with much skill or seriousness.

Let me just say right out of the gate that I entered this little project in an entirely too eager manner. I bought the minis already assembled and primed from a fella on eBay, and they weren't in the best condition. I was disappointed, but I didn't take the time to fix them as well as I should have, which I now regret. There may be some mold lines visible, the primer was poorly applied (kinda grainy), and a few of the ones I haven't painted yet were just set in silly poses (bolter in front of the face?!). There are a few other glaring flaws like spots I couldn't reach well with the brush without messing something else up, and the bolter barrel not being drilled. I went ahead anyway and just wanted to try and get my hand accustomed to working the brush.

I'm still trying to find the best setting for taking pictures with my phone until I can get a proper camera.

So, I chose a fairly simple color scheme for the first few. I have a couple of kids that have become a little interested in the hobby and since I'll likely be helping them paint their own minis I didn't want anything too complicated. I went with a pair of space marines from the Dark Hunters chapter. There isn't much fluff on them but I liked the one story I read, and I dig the dark blue armor.

One thing that stands out loudly in the pics that doesn't show through as brightly on the minis is the edge highlights. I don't like the current trend of tracing every edge in an edge highlight but I'm not sure of a better way to do it, so here's what I have.

I also painted an Iron Snakes SM and a Celestial Lions SM to get the feel for painting metallics, as well as what was supposed to be an Angels Encarmine Sm, but I should probably post them in another thread.

Posting here is prolly fine, and they look really good for your first mini's.

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss
