OK i decided to create a Necron army about a year ago. I read the codex, liked the fluff, made a list and bought- WAIT.
Forums tell me necrons get new codex summer 2011 so i play the waiting game, in that time i decided i wanted to make a necron army that had a ceramic color scheme, kind of taking the Living Metal idea to the next level.
Now that so many necron rumors and leaks are out it makes my ceramic chapter seem more plausible.
Would a pale bleached ceramic army with color insignias kind of like the star wars droids fly according to these new rumor ideas for special lords and factions of the Necron?

Can't beat Necrons w/ CSM?
Take 2 squads of Nurgle possesed Swooping hawks and haywire both Monoliths turn 1.
Can't fail. Then charge nightbringer with a possesed Lysander w/ MoN.
Just got to think outside the box bro. |

Not a chapter...
Never a chapter...
With Necrons i suppose it would be a custom Legon or Tombworld...
From what you have written it seems fine, it would probably work for the previous codex as well to be honest.

As long as the paint scheme is good, who cares about the fluff.

There isn't a paint scheme for necrons you MUST adhere to.
Feel free to do whatever you want.
Mine are all a highlighted blue.

The new hotness is lots of different tomb worlds. With stuff like "flayer disease" and "destroyer disease" going about, I don't see why your specific tomb would couldn't have damaged programming to be producing necrodermis that has ceramic properties and appearance... or your Necron Overlord simply likes those colors and paints them that way. Either approach would be 100% in line with the current fluff, so go to town!
Even in the previous codex, by the way, there were sections with different color schemes, and several of them represented "advanced alien ceramics". So they would have been fine then, as well as now. The advice you received was more about not investing in models that might become obsolete, like Pariahs.

I can see some funky fluff now about how a chapter of astartes has devloved to be like necrons kind of like how the death korps of kreig were almost less human than the necrons they were fighting. Like an all bionic chapter like the iron hands to the next level!

I would call it a "city-state" or a tomb world. That seems to fit with the fluff and also the cold hard facts on which the necrons are based on. It could definately work, my old army was painted as follows to give it more of a ceramic look..
Black base followed by a light layer of bubonic brown. I then drybrushed it with a layer of scorched brown to give it different levels of color depth. To finish i dry brushed the model with a layer of bleached bone. It should make the model a bit darker than the bleached bone while also leaving joints/gaps in the model a darker color. Looks really good in my opinion. Makes it look ancient and at the same time very techie. If you really want to be cool you can attempt to write some runes on the models, saw that on a similarly painted army and it looked amazing. With this color scheme i didnt use the green color for the rods, i repainted them plack then applied a mix of skull white/ice blue (40/60) which was followed by "lightning" details in skull white/blood red (30/70. I was quite happy with them.

But that's not what this thread is about.

Depends on the droid model you're using, I suppose. Battle-droids? Definitely not. A legion of IG-88 assassin droids? Now you're on to something.
