I am a new 40k player and have run into an issue in the GK Codex that I am not able to answer. In an army, I have a unit of 12 Psykers, who have, as a group, a single shooting attack with a 36" range a Large Blast radius effect. I have taken a Chimera transport for the unit, and that transport's top hatch is a firing point. My question is whether the Psykers can use their special ranged attack from that fire point (only one shot per turn), or must they use the fixed lasguns along the sides?

And a simple answer is that one model is chosen to be the firer of that psychic weapon. Since the chimera has enough room for 5 models to fire and your only firing one weapon (all be from a entire squad) you still have 4 possible shooting attacks from the top hatch.

You can fire 5 weapons from the firing point, as given in the rules for hte Chimera

I was not as clear as I should have been with the initial question. The question is not whether one can fire five weapons. The question is whether those five weapons must be the fixed lasguns on the sides of the Chimera, or can the models use their own weapons. I believe both answers imply that the models can use their own weapons, but the Codex is not clear on that point (why, oh why, did it have to mention the lasguns?).

The Chimera, from a rules perspective, has no lasguns on it anywhere. The fluff explanation for allowing models to treat the back hatch as a fire-point (namely, they are "firing the fixed lasgun emplacements") is nothing more than a throwback to previous editions where the rules for embarked models were somewhat more complex. Basically it's just a "here's how we justify 5 guys shooting out of the back of that tiny hatch" message to gamers familiar with previous editions.

So as everyone has already said, embarked models simply treat the back hatch as a fire-point which can accommodate up to 5 models shooting (with the big psychic shooting attack counting as a single model firing).

Everything I have ever heard around here is that you can shoot whatever you want from the hatch, including heavy weapons etc. That's how I've always played it.

Also, there are six lasguns on a chimera despite saying that you get five shots which always annoyed me!

Great! Thank you everyone for your answers. My Psykers will have a blast driving around shooting stuff until they blow themselves up.

Try pointing them all at a single target...

Think of it this way: there are three lasgun ports on each side, plus two more weapons can be fired from the hatch above them, for a total of five weapons.

Note, of course, that any weapons can be fired out of that fire point, not just lasguns.

Or do what I did and remove all those lasguns, since they no longer exist in the unit entry.
