Hey all you friendos. I have a question.
Ive been painting GW models for four years now, and just recently(in the last half year) ive invested in a tyranid army and have started to play with a group. Thing is, I think I might have jumped the gun on the tyranid choice for a couple of reasons.
A) I dont quite enjoy painting tyranids, as there seems to be a lack of sharp detail in their smooth bio-engineered bodies (comparatively to a more rough faction... which I like)
B) In my little experience with gaming, I dont think that the tyranid "run at them and start hacking" ideology really suits me.
C) I really like metal things (like tanks and real guns)
D) It makes for a whole whack of models to paint... which discourages me.

As you can see, Im having serious second thoughts. But since I am rather new, I wanted to ask...

- Is this normal?

If not, how do you think I should go abouts selling my guys and buying a nice shiny necron army?

Really, if you dislike doing it, then I would say start a new army that you would like to paint.

Necrons would be a good army to change to, with them getting a new release and all.

Sometimes you get an army that just doesn't click with you. If you've only had the Nids for the last few months, then maybe selling them off isn't such a bad idea. If somebody used to like an army and gets bored with it, I'd advise them not to sell it. It doesn't sound like you've liked Nids much from the start though, in which case it's probably best to sell them off. Get Necrons or some other army that appeals to you.

You should remind yourself on what made you interested in the nids, in the first place. See if that helps. If it doesn't then you should swap armies quickly lest you expand your nids into a large army which by then would be too late.......

Ok, tanks guys...
I think the reason why I started out with them was because I found a box kicking around my house when the time came to start playing, and I grew on that.
Also, because they reminded me of starship trooper.
I think I could have possibly made a subconscious connection with the boobie-shower scene and tyranids
(boobie-shower scene=starship trooper=tyranids, so boobie-shower scene=tyranids).
Point is, I dont really remember why I wanted them In the first place.

I started collecting some Eldar, but decided they weren't really for me. It happens. Time to sell them and move on if you can't find a reason to still like them. Unless you have a load of storage space in case your future self decides to go all buggy on you.

I think a fair price is like 20 - 25% off retail value...

It matters. Are they new on sprue? Assembled? Painted? Painted well or bad?

You could always make a list, take pictures, post it on the swap shop and Bartertown and ask for offers.

20-25% off for new in box
30-40% off for assembled
50-60% off for painted, unless it's painted really, really well.

The only way to get what you paid for is to do a straight up trade, which I recommend doing through Dakka's own Swap Shop. Read the guidelines there and see if anyone will trade you for Necrons.

I wouldn't scrap them, as others have said something motivated you to buy this army. I wish I had all the armies even in the small pieces they were when I went making a new army every few months.

I'd easily have a 2k Emperor's Children army. a 1500 Imperial Guard force. 1000 points of the old Dark Eldar. A small nurgle army. -Then- my small 13th Company warband.

Don't be like me. Full of regret and sorrow for his armies. :(

I've sold so many armies. :(
