I was just wondering if there are greater daemons that serve chaos as whole?

As a greater Daemon is beholden to its chosen god i doubt it. By doubt it i mean no.

I've actually heard there used to be rules for fielding unaligned Greater Daemons.

I don't know about now.

Greater Daemons are created by a Chaos God "breaking off" a minuscule piece of its own power and shaping it into a self-sentient entity to further that god's aims, so Chaos Undivided, being less a sentience like a Chaos God and just a concept, is not able to create such beings.

However, there are plenty of Warp Entities that do not serve a specific Chaos God and just sort of float around being Extremely Nasty, some of which, I'm sure, can rival Greater Daemons in power and ability. These beings don't really serve Chaos Undivided, however, at least not directly, as they are more concerned with serving themselves.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Back in the days of the Realm of Chaos books there were. In current fluff, no. A Greater Daemon is a part of one of the 4 Gods.

Well CSM have rules for generic greater daemons. No particular fluff to back it up beyond a common set of rules to use for any of the 4 god's greater daemons.

There are a couple of Greater Daemons in fluff that dont follow their gods aims. The gods sometimes to let them go on doing whatever for their own amusement. Like Skarbrand.

Sarge: Quick, Kill them!
Grunt: Wait, but those are ladies, we cant hurt ladies.
Sarge: Those arent ladies, they're Deamonettes. They will tear you limb from limb and eat your soul.
Grunt: But sir... that's what ladies do....

Is a chaos god able to reabsorb his daemons? If not, its entirely possible a daemon might decide he doesnt serve his god anympre, instead deciding to serve chaos as a whole. Or at least i would assume.

Shh, we don't talk about them.

Fluff-wise, Greater Daemons are a fragment of their god, and can't stop serving them. Of course, there are minor gods that are about as powerful or stronger than a greater daemon.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.
