I play pups and I'm reading the Omnibus and my question is this: The wolf that Ragnar killed during his training trial was white, and yet I've just discovered that it is actually the basis for his namesake, being a Blackmane wolf... But it's white? I know it sounds ridiculous but it really has to do more or less with his miniature which, might I add, is in DESPERATE need of a makeover, same model since 2nd Edition... Regardless, sticking to fluff, do I paint the wolf pelt he wears white?

Paint it black. Its suppose to be black. And its referenced as black in all but that first story. You can paint it a faded grey black if you feel the need though.

And that model is really old. I know it was actually a basis for a Russ model back in 2nd ed.

But yes, black is the color of the pelt in all tradition.

Sarge: Quick, Kill them!
Grunt: Wait, but those are ladies, we cant hurt ladies.
Sarge: Those arent ladies, they're Deamonettes. They will tear you limb from limb and eat your soul.
Grunt: But sir... that's what ladies do....

This.

if you get sick of that model, you can make a passable version from the plastic wolf pack bits.

The wolf that Ragnar killed in his training is not the wolf he got for his namesake, The wold he got for his namesake was killed on one of their game hunts when he went out of the fang without power armor and killed a very large, think canis mount Black wolf.

I don't think he did the cover art...

William King is alright but he's no Dan Abnett. Whenever I hear his name all I can think of is...

"Gotrek ran his thumb down the edge of his axe blade, single droplet of blood, ran his thumb, droplet of blood, bead of blood, ran his thumb down the head of his axe, blood, thumb, axe, single bead, blood, thumb, ran..."

Would Gotrek even have a thumb left at this point?

Thunderwolves and Blackmane Wolves are different think...
Thunderwolves are the size of rhinos are lack any subtlety whatsoever.
Blackmane wolves are up to a regular sized man's shoulder but are far more cunning than any of the other wolves on Fenris.

True enough, never was a fan of King's work. Of course, then you read Prospero burns and every time you hear Dan Abnett's name, all you can think of is "wet leopard growl".

And normally this is true, but part of the reason his was a big deal is because it was so large and also had all the traits of a regular blackmane wolf.

I think the reason it was a big deal was because he was unarmoured and had a knife and a spear to help him. This was also pre-implantation of anything.
The Blackmane wolf is big anyway even a standard sized one is big.
It doesn't say the one he killed was bigger than a normal one.

Why would the Wolves sound like leopards? I don't get it!!!!!!

I would probably paint it with a dark grey undercoat, with a layer of white for lightligts, maybe with a black "mane" looking thing. Like a stripe on the centre of its head that runs down its back a bit. Or something like that.

You are correct.

William King is far superior to the recently-commercialised Abnett.

Abnett's work has become lit for the sake of maintaining a contract and no longer contains half the skill or passion of his earlier works.

As for the rest of your rant... mis-interpret english much?

In Prospero Burns, to voice their agreement with something, apparently the Space Wolves let out what is indeed referred to as a "wet leopard growl."

It was fething hilarious.

Regardless, I personally will read the Space Wolf books eventually, even though I don't care for the chapter.

I've read the books. I just don;t understand why they refer a wolf's growl with a loepard. They don't even sound the same.....

Probably just a "creative" way to write something... Sometimes it works and this time it DEFINATELY didnt lol. Fail on the authers behalf. But funny none the less.

WELL, I don't mind the first Space Wolf Omnibus, I mean, I've read better authors and there are a few grammatical errors which ERK me but I like the story and I'm not nearly as hard on poor authors as I am on say... Directors... Trashy written books aren't THAT bad...

No , I was refering to the fact that the first few Felix and Gotrek novels were originally in article form. So the books were horribly repetative.
Every single time Gotrek draws his axe he "runs his thumb down the blade, drawing a single bead of blood". I'd think he'd have a huge canyon in the center of his thumb by now.
