I know it isn't even out yet, but having read the rumors section about the new Necron wargear I ended up in a bit of a debate with a friend about which was better:

1) A warscythe that ignores all saves, or

2) A +2 strength power weapon warscythe

For my money the original ignore all saves is better. I can understand that against the average target the new one has an advantage, but then in my mind the whole army is likely to have equipment to beat the 'average target' and the warscythe as it was could put the frights into those few things that normally aren't too worried by more standard equipment.

So what do you all think, do you prefer a better chance to wound or for the wounds you make to stick without question?

If brute force isn't the answer, it's only because you aren't using enough of it.

I actually like the new one a bit. It is actually a tad more practical, as invul saves aren't actually all that common, and even then tend not to be that effective as the model's armor save.

Invul saves may not be too common, but FNP is, and the "ignore all saves" effect ignores FNP.

Although I guess power weapons do too. Feel free to ignore this post, but I'm gonna submit it anyway.

For me it's hard to say, I did like the whole "I wounded you and now you're dead" aspect of the old one but...

A S7 power weapon is pretty legit, I mean the chance that you will land a wound just went up, and (so it sounds like) we still keep our good old 2D6 pen roll on vehicles thus our already decent chance of popping open tanks also just went up as well. At the least... I'll call it even trade... but I want my C'tan back, at least the big 4.

I like the new one. The whole "your save is invulnerable... except against this" was just a bit naff.

Not to mention that it didn't matter because the guys carrying them sucked in combat anyway.

Not really. Destroyer lords were pretty nasty. But I do agree that when you think about it the anti-invul thing didn't make that much sense. Like, how could it ignore invuls given by dodges?

Of course when you think about it some more...why would a dodge give you an invul? It should really be reroll successful hits.

I donno... there is something to be said for removing assault terminators, 1 wound deamons, etc. out right.

I really miss my dread axe in my emperors children army.

The old one fo sho. It was a pretty unique weapon, and was another example of how the Necrons had some crazy, terrifying technology. It was also a great trolling weapon since it ignored all saves, though I guess the new load of weapons that kill on failed characteristics tests is the new version of this.
