I've heard tell of an escalating tourney in the UK, apparently having been run for quite some time. My understanding is that it might have been a school/university club that did it annually. We are talking of running out first event in the city I live in (in Canada) and are looking for something different for our 40k side. This is something that'd be really interesting, we're just curious as to how others do theirs. Thanks!

Closest i can think of is Bristol Vanguard and their campaign weekend - 1000, 1500 and 2000 points, with an allowance for FW models and rules at 2000 point levels.

Hi

Where about in Canada? It's kinda of a big place you know...

A number of years ago, we used to have Saturday night afterhours events where we tried a lot of different formats, including an escalation style event. It has been a while but the key considerations I remember:

First Assume: 4 rounds @ 500, 1000, 1500 & 2000; assume each player must use the same army book throughout.
- Does whatever you include at X point level have to be included in the next step up? (i.e.all of my 500 point force is in the 1000, 1500, 2000 forces as well. All of my 1000 point force is in my 1500 and 2000 point force)
- If yes, can those units be modified? If yes to modification, can that be a modification both up and down in points value OR just upwards? (i.e. Can you push your squads of 25 boyz to 30? Can I add a powerfist to my marine sergeant? Add two combi-meltas to my sternguard? Can I cut a loota squad of 15 down to nine and then add a second squad of 9?)

Cheers,
Nate

We ran it at the local store in NH (1000,1500,2000). the only requirement was that each list was from the same book.

It ended up being a goode time. it wa obvious that some codexes were better suited to diffarent point levels.

It really depends on what your goal is with an escalation league. Are you trying to attract new players to the game or just have a fun time with veterans.

This can determine quite a few things like, painting requirements, points limits, # of games you play etc.

Not a league; a single tournament, with games at different point values.

Yeah, exactly.

Our working plan is a 4game tournament.

1000-1250-1500-1750. At each increasing level you'll need to keep the entire previous list and add 250 to it, but not subtract for the previous.

It should be quite enjoyable and a good way to say farewell to 5th.
