I'm going to start a Chaos Space Marine army. I'm thinking of painting it in the Night Lords paint scheme.

My question is this: Do i HAVE to buy the Night Lords conversion pack (Helmets and Shoulderpads) for the Chaos Space Marines 10-man box? Or is it ok to just use the normal Helmets and Shoulderpads included in the box?

You can do whatever you want. If I were you I'd only buy the Conversion Packs for my important IC's and the latter.

What is 'the important IC's and the latter'?

I'm not just new to Chaos Space Marines, i'm new to Warhammer in general.

Chaos Lords, sorcerers, champions. Can't think of much more now, though there might be something.

Like, Chaos Lords, Sorcerers, even the Seargents for your squads.

Essentially, no, but you can buy a pack and place them on models you want to look cool.

It's not required. It's just a suggestion to make certain specific models look a little "cooler", or stand out as if they have a higher rank.

Ok, that's good then because i just had my Battleforce delivered earlier today and i didn't want to put them together and then find out i needed the special helmets and shoulderpads.

Guess i can get started now, thanks guys.

Keep in mind that when playing Night lords, everytime you say their name you have to scream it in a high pitch voice like so...

NAIIIGHT LOOAARDS!

P.S - I would only use conversion sets on characters you want to stand out otherwise your going to have quite an expensive army project on your hands.

No. As long as you paint them blue and gold, they're night lords. No one's going to call BS if you don't buy the Over priced conversion set

I'd use the conversion pack on something like... Champions. All of your champions would look cool with a bat hat

Thanks guys, time to start putting some Marines together!

And yes haha, the conversion set is overpriced...along with everything else!

Just remember to paint the lightning... And perhaps buy a bat swarm for conversions

I have another question, i'll put it here to save opening another topic. Am i allowed to post images to the gallery? Or are there certain requirements for that?

the requirements to post images are as follows:

No nudity. If its there you MUST put in the thread title, "NSFW" (Not Safe For Work).

Next, if the image is blurry, you're going to get people who will complain they can't see what they are looking at. Do yourself a favor and just find a better picture.

There are numerous threads on how to take close up pictures (make sure you're using the close up option - its the flower symbol I believe on most cameras?)

If you honestly wanted to you could commission someone to MAKE you a custom set of pads for your company. If you do Night Lords pick a company and do some research. It will make how you look and appreciate the army that much better.

You don't have to, but I always buy that stuff or make it myself. I like when my armies look like what they are physically and not just with paint color

Great choice in army, I'd definitely recommend (if you haven't already) picking up a copy of 'Lord of the Night' and 'Soul Hunter' books- they're very good reads.
Here is my old Night Lords army, it's alright, showing its age though; http://s1098.photobucket.com/albums/g370/muse1c/For%20Sale/Night%20Lords/

Good luck, and enjoy the army!

Cheers

Night lords have been reduced to scavengers, they pick up what they can from where they win, so it wouldnt be surprising if 90% or more of their wargear is pilfered after having been without their own manufacturing facilities for so long. You could go ahead and use the loyalist stuff as well... it would just look odd.

check out this link, he runs his army using a blood angels codex http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-35865-18874_%22Rison%27s%20Few%22%20Night%20Lords%20Warband.html
