So I've got a 1K point campaign coming up, and decided I wanted to do foot IG, just to try something different. I feel like I don't have nearly enough shooting elements, but maybe that's just how foot operates. Or should I just abandon my shooting all together and go for a full offensive?

CCS- LC, MoO
CCS- LC, MoO

Stormtroopers- 2x melta
Marbo

Platoon 1
PCS- Al'rahem, 4x Flamer
PIS- PW, melta, meltabomb, commissar w/ PW
PIS- PW, melta, meltabomb
PIS- PW, melta

Platoon 2

PCS- 4x GL
PIS- GL, AC
PIS- GL, AC
PIS- GL, AC

So a couple things I really dislike about this list. First is the lack of an astropath for my three reserve units, who pretty much make or break the army. Second is that I'm leaving at home all of my nice shiny plasma guns, which have always served me well in the past. I debated dropping platoon 2 for a pair of plasvet squads, but that leaves me with only 30 bodies at home base. Third, is Al'rahem worth it? I love the outflanking idea, but with 70 points I could bump a lot of things. Last, I know the two MoO are probably not the most optimal choice, but I think the idea is hilarious, and with BiD, they should be decent at hitting larger tanks. Thanks for the input.

Al'rahem is kind of a unique character that can be used for a couple things. He really shines with his 'Like the Wind!' order that allows a squad to shoot AND run in the same shooting phase.

Outflanking him with meltas is a good, tank hunters choice.

StormTroopers and two meltas... More tank hunting...

Las Cannons in both Company Command Squads? More Tank Hunting...

You must not like tanks.

Hmmmm...

Its not a terrible list or bad list per-se.

Though an Astropath would definately help since half your army is in reserves.

Marbo is actually a nice choice in a low point game. He's pretty adept at killing small squads like Devastators and Combat squads (look out for those power fists and weapons), so good choice there.

May I recommend switching out a Las Cannon for a Missile Launcher or Heavy Bolter?

While Autocannons are pretty good, a Horde Army of Ork Boyz might give you some problems while running full tilt at you through terrain. Then there's the possibility of outflanking units hitting you also. Instead of Grenade Launchers I think Flamers would be more worthwhile for its points cost. The Heavy Bolter or Missile Launcher might help against large mobs of units.

You also might need a strong unit to take enemy objectives in case its an objectives scenario. You could slide the commissar into Al'Rahem's squad and probably lose one or two flamers and just have two las pistol + close combat Guardsmen to add weight to Al'Rahem's close combat.

You can order Al'Rahem's 'Like the Wind!' on himself, the three/two flamers and pistols shoot, run, and then charge into combat with what'ever is camping your enemy's objective.

That's all the suggestions I really got. Other than that the list seems fine.

HIDING IN METAL BAWKSES!

I agree, should probably change the GL into flamers. Make Al'rehems PCS into a more CC squad, and you are golden.

Do not drop your LCs for anything that is for all purposes less effective. They are your only Turn 1 long range AT.

Al'Rahim... yeah, at 1k he /is/ super hard to pull off. He really does turn into the focus of your list. Is he good? Hell yeahs. At 1k and costing you half of your army till he comes in? No. Drop him and go twin power blob with HWSs and CCSs providing you long range cover.

Give your PCSs 4x Flamers or 3x Flamers and a heavy flamer. Now your 'hoard' question is answered, if a couple of turns of AC fire doesn't do it for you.

What is really killing you is buying the 2 MoOs, specially with DSing/Outflanking units. Your risking scattering into your own stuff. Either you drop them or you change your list. If you drop Al, now maybe you can make them work. If you keep Al, they have to go. That is your choice.

Good luck!
