Looking to build up another army for 40K. Was looking into Bolt Action 28MM figures to use for IG. For bases I want to cut out the correct circumference using the ones that comes with 40K. Crew serve weapons next size higher and up. Was going for the german theme. Waffen for elites, german para's for veterans, Heer for troops. Their heavy weapons will be matched up to their equivalent.
Reason why is I would like to field different looks when I throw my mini's on the board. Already a popular hit with my snake scale look to my SM. Being military I do travel. My next stop soon will be Seattle WA to finish off my recovery from being injured. To me the idea appeals to me. As for vehicles for them I'm still debating but I'm leaning towards PZ4 or Tigers. Using Bradley's as troop carriers. Using Self Propelled Artillery (M110) with M198 for artillery. Also throw in the Webel to deal with the pesky DE's.
Yes? No?

Use american troops?

Go for it! Obviously, ensure that different weapons are easily discernible for your opponent's sake. I have a 1,000 point Guard detachment made entirely out of Pig Iron infantry, Old Crow vehicles, and various bits from my bits box (Heavy weapons) or GW blisters (meltaguns, plasmaguns). Most people get a kick out of the army and I get a lot of compliments on it.

Bradleys intermixed with Panzers might appear a bit anachronistic, maybe a halftrack instead? Depending on the detail level you want to go with, Old Crow has some cool vehicle kits, many have a retro-futuristic vibe. Level of detail is a little less than GW or a military model, but still fairly good. Also, they're 25mm, not 32mm. For many, it's not a problem, but there are one or two vehicles in their range that seem small in comparison to 40k. However, if your infantry are non-gw, they'll likely be a bit smaller, too.

And finally...

What the heck is that thing, some kind of chaos squirrel?!?

Chinchilla? Would make a good defiler/soul grinder, I guess...Stuffed.

The standard Leman and Chimera would work with those models to avoid vehicle scale problems.

HIDING IN METAL BAWKSES!

Might be a chinchilla. Not sure though...
And I agree with the above for the LR and Chimera.

It's a Sugar Glider, not a chinchilla.

I'll warn you now that some of the Bolt Action plastics are complete - ...well they're not the easiest things to put together and the weapons don't really fit the poses (ones I did were British Infantry). Metal ones are fine, albeit slightly smaller in terms of each models size, but you don't have to worry about the horrendous job of putting together arms & weapons & body & legs - all, seemingly, at once. No idea on the German plastics, but if they're anything like the British ones, prepare for some stress when building 'em.

Thing to remember when using models by another company is that most tournaments I've attended, official GW & club/town/county ones, require each model in your force to be made up of 50% (or whicever % it is) GW stuff, so if you were to build 1000 points Imperial Guard using Bolt Action models, you'd most likely only be able to use it against friends/in your local club if your opponents happy with the idea.

@Stvafel: Heh. Me too...

Usain Bolt:
WS3 BS3 S3 T3 W1 AI I10 Sv6+/3+(I)

Usain Bolt benefits from the following special rules:

Usain Bolt is fast and hard to hit, as a result he gets a 3+ Invunerable save vs all shooting attacks. His runner's jersy save is taken in HTH.

Usain Bolt always strikes first in HTH and may leave HTH if he successfully makes an initiative check by rolling under his initiative on 1D6. His opponents may not follow up.

Usain Bolt moves using jetbike rules.

If Usain Bolt reaches the enemy deployment zone, you gain one kill point. Once he is there, he may make no additional actions while he celebrates. Every turn spent in celebration gets you one kill point.

If Usain Bolt ever fails to wound a model in combat, (false start), he will immediately retire from the field.
