Hi all, just got into 40k the past month or so and need help putting together a small blood angels army list any ideas. Looking for somthing fun with lots of DC and Astorath the grim. im open to all suggestions.

DC and 1000pts limits don't go well together, you'l have to field 2000pts to do what you want to do.

thats true they are really costly, would you have any ideas for a simple well rounded army?

would this be a good start?

Hq - commander dante

troop- sanguinary guard
+power fist

troop - 9man tac squad in rhino

troop- 10 man Assault squad
+power fist
+meltagun

fast- Baal Pred (or death company instead)

It's hard to be well rounded at 1000pts. That being said, Dante or Astarath are overkill at low pts and take up too many pts. Take a librarian stock at100pts, take blade of sanguinius (str10 hits) and smite or blood lance. 2x baals with HB and assault connons at 290pts, 1x Land Speeder with MM and typhoon Missiles at 100pts for tank hunting. With that you got 490 pts, so that' about 500pts left for some troops. Take 3 assault squads with meltas in razorbacks and a priest with the change if you can. So with that, you have 5 tanks on the table and no one is on foot. That way his anti infantry weapons will have to wait a couple of turns before raking in any kills.

Or

You can go the other way and only take assault squads with meltas ad PwFists with a libraran and/or reclusiarchs. All with jump packs. With that you have no armour on the table, thus rendering his big antitank guns usless (str 10 on a marine sucks, but even more so on a tank). You can try this setup if you really want to put SaGuards in or Dante.

If you prefer tac squads over assaults, then give them a rhino because of the 2 view ports and camp them with a heavy weapon. If you want to take DCs, then take also the DC Dreadnoughts to go with them.

I don't cover DC heavy armies in the guide, as they aren't competitive. If you want to do that, remember that you will barely be playing 40k, as you won't be able to control your army.

not true...but only to a certain extent

i would give MrEconomics article a look at. it will help out some. but as you have seen some people have different ideas about what is covered, myself included. after reading it, it should give you an idea of where to start

i for one enjoy an all jump pack army (DoA) and do very well with it. and can be fun at 1k pts. so here is one of my fav lists that i have alot of fun with

libby
-jump pack
-shield of sanguinius
-blood lance

2x sanguinary priest
-jump packs
-2x combi-flamer (points filler)

10x assault marines
-2x melta guns
-power fist for sgt

10x assault marines
-2x melta guns
-power fist for sgt

5x sanguinary guard
-2x infernus pistols
-1x power fist


with this list i can pretty much deal with vehicles using the melta guns and infernus pistols. and can also assault like crazy. its a nice list for just starting out...you dont have to worry bout vehicle rules too much (which in my area new people have troubles with) and can still have fun without too much frustration

lliadon's list is almost exactly like the one I'm currently building.

DoA blood angels look refreshingly different from all other marine armies, and should be a very fun experience.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, did you read my article? If so, what objections do you have to my advice? It more-or-less boils down to 1. Magnetize your models and 2. Buy Assault Marines. I don't think either is terribly controversial.

I disagree. Magnetization is a horrible idea.

Velcro is the wave of the future when it comes to model arm attachments.

I challenge you to a duel over this.

Just make the DC 1000 pt army it'll be funny.

1000pt blood angels looks very much like half a 2000pt army. So like a few preds and razorbacks or jump packers.

1000pts:

Librarian - jump pack

command squad w/jump packs - 3 meltaguns, 2 lclaw, 1 pfist

10 man assault sqd, sgt w/pfist, 2 meltaguns
10 man assault sqd, sgt w/pfist, 2 meltaguns

sanguinary priest w/jump pack

5 vanguard vets w/jump packs, 1pfist, 2 pweps

~1000pts

Other option is get the battleforce and make everything in it DC

so you have 10 DC on foot in rhino - 350pts+ upgrades
10 DC assault - 500pts?
Astaroth - 200ish

again ~ 1000pts!

I quite like the first list. The second might be fun, but would basically end up with your opponent playing Solitaire.
