Have any of you read any of the books from the series? I really like the Salamanders, and would like Dakka's take on it.

I havnt read any of them but I have been meaning to for a while. Would like to hear what everyone thinks of them also.

They seem like an interesting series, and apparently Vulkan He'stan and Tu'shan are mentioned, which would be a big bonus, not to mention Nocturne seems to be under attack in the third book.

I just finished all three books (e-books). I really liked them. I don't want to give a way any spoilers but, it makes me want to start painting salamander's. I like how the salamander's actually CARE about the human's of their home planet (and human's overall). I have a lot of good ideas of how to paint their skin and such.

They're unusual from the rest of the 40k novels in that the Salamanders come across as being relatively normal. You know how 40k is basically every trope dialed up to 11? Well the Salamanders are basically 40k dialed back down to maybe seven or eight.

There's the usual holding the line against a bajillion orks or whatever, but it's more that they have sane(ish) attitudes towards who they are, what they're doing, and why they're doing it.

From the excerpts I read on BL website, I think I might get the trilogy. Plus the books are not too expensive.

I loved the trilogy, but I personally think Nocturne ended strangely. It kind of leaves it open for another book, but I.m not sure.

Well, guess we'll see if it is in fact not a trilogy

Loved the first two books, but after finishing Nocturne earlier this week I have to say I was kind of disappointed. It wasn't a bad book, but it feels disjointed and is certainly the worst one of the series IMO.

I got about 75 pages left of Nocturne, it's a great series I must say. And Nocturne is looking to be quite the epic finale.

I read the first book, thought long and hard about it, and decided to stop there. As some have said, they enjoyed the more normal / sane portrayal of the Salamanders. While I liked the fact that they care for humans, I found their constant in-fighting and frat boy clique mentality to be tremendously grating. Two things which decided me against continuing the series were:

Spoiler:
The sidekick (Iago was it?) of Tsu'Gan is basically an evil, gold-digger Space Marine who MURDERS a fellow battle brother cause he doesn't want his chances of getting PROMOTED to be jeopardized. WTH right, since when do Space marines have ambitions of promotion etc. And then the book says that his twisted nature was 'overlooked' by the chaplains (wut?)

And the second was:

Spoiler:
They discover a battle brother who fought in the Horus Heresy, then basically they euthanize him cause he's old and they had to leave in a hurry. I get that SM would rather administer the Emperor's mercy than leave a gravely wounded brother in the hands of the enemy, but c'mon, here's someone who actually fought with their Primarch, who knows what he could have told them about their chapter history, he was there! Maybe he even knows something about where their precious artifacts are hidden. I get the logic but it left a sour taste in my mouth, that's like finding Loken in the year 41,000 and killing him off right away.
