This one in particular is cool (forgive me if it's in the rumor thread already):

Sounds like the Warscythes do not add 2D6 to armour pen:
Games Workshop wrote:Mat Ward from Games Development says:
NECRON LYCHGUARD
Lychguard are close combat heavies, and excel as bodyguards for your Overlord, or shock troops fit to sweep the foe aside. If you're expecting heavy firepower, make sure your Lychguard are upgraded with dispersion shields - not only do these provide a 4+ invulnerable save, they can also rebound hits onto nearby enemies. Otherwise, stick with the mighty warscythe - Strength 7 attacks with no armour saves makes quick work of anything short of a Land Raider.
And some cool info about the C'tan:
Games Workshop wrote:Mat Ward from Games Development says:
The C'tan may be broken servants, but they're no less effective for all that. They've got a Greater-Daemon-menacing profile, and that's before you purchase the two mandatory C'tan powers. These are where your C'tan Shards really come to life - you can grant them ranged attacks (the tank-busting Transdimensional Thunderbolt comes to mind) close combat abilities (like Entropic Touch, which rots the armour of your opponent's troops) and weird game-changing mad science abilities (like Lord of Fire, which makes flamer and melta weapons explode!). There's loads of freedom in creating a fragment of Star God that suits your playing style, so just dive in and try a few out.

Not that many people ever bother to read threads before commenting...
I think most of the models look better now that there are clearer photos available. I am quite taken with the Lychguard now - especially the version equipped with shields. However, while the Ark model is in many ways a good concept, I've decided I don't really like some of the key details - particularly the weapons protruding from the side, and the row of 'legs' on the Doomsday variant. On the other hand, I really like the Barge model, and would happily build and paint either version. And the Finecast Overlord is a very nice model, although I think the plastic one that comes with the Barge is better. I still think not re-doing the Monolith was a missed opportunity - the level of detail on the new vehicles blows it away (and it's always been a rather bland model). It will be important for them to put out the rest of the new Necron models quickly, I think.

They've really ruined Necrons for me. Necrons should be phalanxes of utterly dead, lifeless machines that plod towards their enemy. The new models look far too dynamic. They just look like people covered in robot 'skin'. What attracted me to Necrons was that they were so basic. So plain. So undynamic when stacked against the other armies. And now, that feeling's gone. The sets just don't do anything for me.
Sorry, rant over.
I am looking forward to the release though. If only to cut out having to buy metal models, not that you save anything thanks to Finecast's cost. Bit sad to see my Pariah's now utterly useless. But hey, new Codexes are welcome. If it makes my beloved but personally ruined Crons more competitive I'll settle for that.

I'd simply use Paraihs as Praetorians or if you want to add Lychguard kit peices onto them, use them as Crypteks.

Agreed. You aren't expected to field them exactly as they're depicted in GW's promotional material. They can still be lifeless robots if you want them to be.

I certainly will not be repainting my old models just for flash. Warriors are still awesome in droves, and GW just overpainted them in an attempt to try and sew some variety into the oldschool mix. I am happy to have some painting alternatives, but if I have learnt anything from the latest posts, leaving your lord nothing but metalic with a fancy but dark colored cape will draw the opponents eye away from him to your overpainted lych guard. Or so I hope...

I've been really happy with my Tau and Sisters for years and never really looked at another army BUT the new Necrons might sway me...they only thing that worried me was the description of some of the higher lords as being "eccentric" and the only thing that comes to my mind with that word is "comedy". Something I don't associate with Necrons.
They sound like they will be a good army with some horrible rules but I hope they are balanced enough for people to have fun and not cry cheese with (ala BA and GK)
EDIT - and in the current meta game the power from the C'tan that makes Meltas/Flamers explode?!?! WTF!!! That will be evil against Guard, BA etc.

"The Deathmarks are shadowy assassins who excel at turning up just when your opponent wished that they hadn't. Deathmarks are at their best when deploying from Deep Strike, and unlike other units in the game can do in your opponent's turn - they just have to wait for an enemy unit to arrive from reserve! Better still, as soon as the Deathmarks arrive, you can have them mark a single enemy unit you don't like the look of. From that point on, any Deathmark unit that shoots at that unit (or attacks it in close combat) will Wound on a roll of 2+"

Trazyn's blurb is interesting too:
Games Workshop wrote:Mat Ward from Games Development says:
Ah, Trazyn, everyone's favourite mad librarian. If you want an Overlord that's almost impossible to kill, Trazyn's your man-shaped robot. Why? Because if he's removed from play, he can come back by taking the place of another character in your army. This, combined with that fact that Trazyn is also a scoring unit, can be a real headache for your opponent.
Trazyn's also no slouch in combat. Whenever his empathic obliterator kills an enemy, it has a chance to kill all other enemies of the same type in the same combat - perfect for Ork mobs. This isn't so useful against characters, but that's why Trazyn also carries a clutch of mindshackle scarabs - why kill an enemy when you can take over his mind and have him kill for you...?
Even the writer called them 'robots'.

I see they've brought back the original necron lord in finecast.
But my buggiest gripe is the stupid 'head crests' that all the commanders and special units seems to be wearing.
Also, none of the new units have the green rods, and whilst that is a good thing in many's eyes (myself included) it kinda breaks the link between the older stuff (destroyers, warriors, monolith for example) and the new stuff, and my OCD doesn't like that the army doesn't match

I like the shift in fluff with necrons - this could actually make me build an army of these guys. It's like they are awakening. The C'tan shards concept is very cool. I've no issue with fluff developing or we'd still be stuck in the days of rogue trader with space clams and space marine field police.
At least I now have the range of models to make that ABC warriors themed necron army I always dreamed of.
@Luke Prowler: If you want to lose the green rods - just glue them in, undercoat and paint to match the other parts of your army - job done. I'm glad the green rods are gone - I can paint the glowing bits myself.
Cheers Laney
