I've recently started playing 40k with a friend, and chose the icnonic emo space elves as a starting army. However, I've been contemplating switching to Grey Knights. Now, don't get me wrong, DE are a fantastic army: I definitely enjoy the challenge inherent with them, but I feel that playing an army of close combat focused, power-armored juggernauts would feel a bit more me. Then again, starting a new army only a month after beginning your first one is a bit... stupid, to say the least, but then again: either way, I'll invest a good amount of money into either group, so I might as well switch now. Do you believe it's worth it? Also, are Grey Knights a more or less fun army to play?
First off, I'm playing with a small army. A crappily painted squad of 10 kabs, another of 10 wyches, 3 reavers, and 2 raiders. First off, I'm unhappy with the color scheme that I chose (which I'm redoing almost as we speak), I'm playing with a fairly small army, and we're only finishing learning the ropes of the game. Once we've played more games, I re-paint the army to a scheme that I think looks good, and I pick us some more minis, I figure I'll start getting more of that "dark eldar reward good strategy" vibe and I'll enjoy the army as a whole more. (Let's face it, our games are very stretched out as we have to look up numerous rules, and I don't enjoy playing DE too much yet as I don't fully understand how they work).
Even though Dark Eldar ARE a great army: they've got good tactical depth and fluff, I feel that the GK are more suited for me. Do you think that changing armies now would be a good decision?
I figure that either way, I'll invest about the same amount of money into either army. But here come the main questions: Can you create a playable GK army for a low price? Despite the fact that you're using very few figures, do you experience a good amount of tactical depth? And can you still play interesting, strategic games with said low amount figures? About how much money would a 1,000 point army cost? Are they fun to play? Are they overplayed? Advice, tips, help, all will be appreciated, thanks!
