This is the army I'm going to enter at a tournament in a couple of months. It's a little early, but I made to get a view of everything I have to paint until then. The point of this list is not to be extremely competitive, but using an army that would look nice and be fun to play with. This is my first tournament, so I'm not exactly trying to win either...

So, here it is:

HQ:

Eldrad - 210p

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elites:

10 Striking Scorpions with Exarch, Scorpion's Claw and Shadowstrike - 207p

10 Howling Banshees with Exarch, Executioner, War Shout - 187p
Attached: Wave Serpent with Twin-Linked Scatter Laser - 115p

5 Fire Dragons - 80p
Attached: Wave Serpent with Twin Linked Scatter Laser - 115p

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Troops:

10 Dire Avengers with Exarch, Dual Avenger Shuriken Catapults, Bladestorm - 152p
Attached: Wave Serpent with Twink-Linked Brightlance - 135p

10 Guardians with Eldar Missile Launcher, Warlock, Embolden - 130p

5 Pathfinders - 120p

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heavy Support:

Fire Prism with Holofields - 150p

5 Dark Reapers with Exarch, Tempest Launcher, Crack Shot - 217p

3 War Walkers with Scatter Lasers - 180p

TOTAL: 1998p

I will face a lot of Space Marines and their variations, therefor I have the Banshees and Reapers. Imperial Guard is also common, and that's why the Scorpions are there.

Give all kinds of critique, all but one: Do NOT suggest DAVU. I hate DAVU, it looks bad and it's very unfluffy.

How come I never get any answers when I post a list at Dakkadakka?

What specifically are you looking for? You've indicated you are building this army to not really be competitive going to a tourney. As such there is not much need to critique. If you provided a plan on how you will use the army, it would be a bit more helpful. As it stands, the army will not stand up to a decent player utilizing a competitive build out of most 5th edition codexes. Sorry that this reads as obnoxious, but it is hard to provide feedback based on what you want out of this army.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

What are you going up against? If SM, drop the Scorpions and replace them more more Banshees or Fire Dragons. I love the Scorpion models but they just don't cut it against Power Armor. Reapers are over priced. I would replace them with more walkers or a Falcon. If you take a Falcon you can put the FD in it and use the WS for the Banshees. In know Pathfinders are over priced but they really mess with your opponent and are good objective holder as long as they are not assaulted. I don't know why people waste shots on them but I'm glad to let them try.

I don't know what I'm up against. The opponents are randomized. This is why I tried to make a kind of all-comers list which is somewhat better against marines. Because there are a lot of marines.

I was a spectator this Autumn (it's a twice a year tournie) and the number of players and what they were playing can be located actually :p

DAVU is cramming as many Wave Serpents on the field as possible, so take what I write with a measure of restraint.

You've essentially made the classical mistake for building an Eldar army, which is to cover all corners - such armies tend to be crushed in all corners rather than gain benefits from it.

You've got some units meched and some units foot slogging. You've got a few units that don't work meched and a few units that don't work on foot. The army is going to divide itself for the enemy, more or less.

I suggest you mech your units up or stick to an Avatar walker list. Well, those are the two stereotypes. I personally hate Guardians so I can't find it in me to recommend taking them at all, but if you do consider Wave Serpenting them.

Fire Prisms do work best in pairs so that you can buff the other if one of them happen to be out of fire arc. Regardless, at 2000 points you have to solve the problem of destroying a lot of armour. With only one squad of meched Fire Dragons and one Fire Prism, you're in for a tough challenger.

As for the last ones out, Striking Scorpions, Howling Banshees and Dark Reapers, well... they can work, provided you know your local meta-game. In some meta-game Reapers work, in others they just don't. In some meta-game the Banshees are allowed to sit pretty for a full turn when they exit vehicle, in others they are annihilated as soon as they leave the Serpent. In some meta-game the enemy do not move their light infantry, allowing the Scorpions to crawl through the jungle.
They just aren't units that are recommendable in a void, you have to know how your opponents react to them, especially considering you pay such a premium for using an old codex for everything (except possibly Fire Prisms and Fire Dragons.)

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

I was also a spectator there, but I watched Warhammer Fantasy mainly. And yeah, I've seen those lists and what people played. What astonished me most is that an Eldar player who used like 50 Guardians came at 4th place or so. And no, I don't have an account there and I don't live in Umeå

@Mahtamori: Yeah, I know that pretty much. I will most certainly be slaughtered. I've been considering dropping the Reapers for another Fire Prism. It really could work wonders... and that combined large blast also work great against Marines...

Hmm. It's very tempting, I'll see what my money allows. If I did replace it, I could give my Serpents Spirit Stones, and probably sneak in a few more Exarch powers here and there...

But one thing I know is that many people doesn't play competitively at this particular tournament. When I was there last time I saw, as said above, a well performing Guardian list, a Necron army with 3 Monoliths, Chaos Dreadnought spam, foot-slogging Marines... Then there were of course a Draigowing and other nasty stuff. But it is a Swiss tournament, so if I lose horribly, I will also face people who lost horribly.

No, don't get me wrong on Guardians, it's just that I personally hate them and think they are wrong (sort of how the Pope think condoms are wrong).
In an Avatar list, having one or two Guardian Defenders with Scatter Laser can increase the reach and close-range punishment quite a lot, just as long as you don't go crazy on adding more Guardians to them.

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.
