I know that I need the manual and tokens, Templates, an army book when i figure out what I'm running.
I am liking the models from Protectorate of Menoth but I also like Trollbloods. Is one a better army?
I'm really not sure which to go with. I love painting models more than anything. The warmachine scene here is non existant so Im kinda starting it up with my friends.
Should I just get the box set and start from there or get enough for the 500 point army if I do this?
I am not figuring I will go much over that unless I get really ate up with it heheh.

Thanks,
Dysturbed

So if you are coming from 40k it might surprise you to know that all Warmachine/Hordes armies are actually balanced... Or more precisely broken to the point that any form of balance ceases to be meaningful. So really there is not good or better army, every army is insanely powerful.

So if you really enjoy painting, then pick the army that you would rather paint.

Now into the actual play style of the armies. Both Trollbloods and Menoth use buffs to fight effectively. However menoth has, imo, slightly more powerful buffs than troll bloods. But all the support units that provide those buffs are really fragile for menoth, where trollbloods tend to be a little more resilient. Also Menoth Needs it's buffs more than trollbloods, where trollbloods can be a little more independent. But most warjacks are slightly stronger stat-wise than warbeasts, with warbeasts tending to have more tricks up their sleeves.

So I hope that has given you a little insight into deciding what path you choose. And welcome to the dark side.

I feel sorry for Santa Clause, All these mom and pop operations are running him out of business.

And watch out for the army point values - a standard game is no longer 500 pts, but 35-50 pts. Same size, but the mk.II rules use the smaller numbers.

I'd say get yourself the 2-Player box set, well worth it.
Full rules, Take the intro guide to Kinkos and color copy the templates pages, and get to playin'
The models are superb, and it's a decent force in 2 flavors!
As stated, any faction can open a can of (insert term). And most players can make a relatively decent list with a little reading.
I wish the AOBR was this playable right out of the box... think of it as about 1000 pts in 40K, add a unit or a couple solos and youre in the 1500 pts range, which I see as 25 in WM.... 35pts would be like 1750-2000 in 40K... as I see it, but YMMV and in Warmachine, you won't be moving no 90 BOYZ in a turn, unless you are in an EPIC battle....
