So yes, I know that I'm just Space Marine n00b #7213-C, but I'd like to hear what you think.

This is meant to be a bit of a themed Armored Column list for my Steel Confessors, but I'm trying to see if I can't make it decently competitive as well. The intent is that the Predators remain in the back providing the bulk of anti-armor fire while the Tactical Squads move forward in their Rhinos to whittle down enemy light and medium infantry. The Land Raider and its Terminators can either assault vulnerable positions or counter-attack stronger enemy threats. Finally, the Captain and Bike Squad are a mobile force that can respond to enemy infantry, heavy infantry, or vehicle threats as needed.

I think it looks alright. Squads are a little bloated, rhinos are a little bloated. Captain is a little bloated and the terminators have too many LCs.

A lot of players do great with lists a lot worse than this, but yeah, the most obviously bloated units are the rhinos. You don't need storm bolters for 10pts, maybe if they cost 2pts. As it is, you're spending 30pts on them and odds are you won't even shoot them. Extra armour is also pretty useless, with only a 1/6 chance of coming into play on any given damage roll. It's not a bad idea on the redeemer though because you don't want that stunned.
Dozers are a reasonable investment for some players, like if you use a lot of terrain or if you use games workshop's "always roll 1 no matter what" chessex dice, so keep those if you like. They look bitchin' too so I understand the logic there.

Next up would be captain, with 20pts spent on a few re-rolls, mostly to make bolter wounds stick. I've never been a fan of hellfire rounds on a captain, I guess it's alright with a TL BS5 relentless bolter but come on 10pts? I'd rather take nothing or a combiplasma. RB is good, artificer is pretty useful. Melta bombs, I don't know, maybe. Never so much liked the PW+MB setup on tacticals, PWs just never ever manage to matter against anything. It's like, if it has an armour save that's worth ignoring, you can't wound it for gak. I always save points on tactical squad assault accessories but the melta bombs are handy I suppose. You could spend an extra 5pts and get a power fist, it can wound stuff reliably and it'll do against most vehicles, plus it's much cooler.

...140pts saved? or something? That should be enough to make two 5man bikesquads, maybe with two flamers/meltas each. Or you could get another predator, or whatever. I think your termies should be geared for 100% hammertime because it doesn't make sense to trade in 3++ for an extra attack.

I reckon you are upgrading just to fill out points with a lack of models. Just play 1700 pts and then slowly build it up.

Actually I like a couple of LCs on my termies especially if they have a raider.

The list holds together fairly well but bloated was a great description .
