So I got this game yesterday, and was both excited and scared to play it. Ive been a huge Kirby fan since it first came out on Nintendo. Ive played a bunch, and when they released Epic Yarn, I was excited, because again, Kirby was a bad ass. Well EpicYarn is an Epic let down, its an ok game, but its so cutesy and so far from Kirbys usual layout that I just didnt care for it. So obviously, Return to Dreamland, I was hoping it wasnt like Epic Yarn, and with a title like "Return to Dreamland" I figured it had to be good, since DreamLand was an awesome game.
Well Ill be honest, Ive only played a little ways into it, but I stopped just so I can come here and type this out. So far, its awesome. 4 players, plays out JUST like DreamLand did on the NES, but 50x better. The special attacks look great, its still humorous in that cute, Im LEVELING you bad guys with mega attacks kind of way. So definitely liking this one so far. Stages are good, sidescrolling is good, it looks fantastic, and the added special attacks are over the top in a good way, and the bosses so far anways, present just enough challenge that you dont want to screw around.
Give it a go, and dust those Wiis off, I think youll like it, gives you that old school feel when playing

I Love Kirby, I can't wait to get my hands on this, and the new Sonic Game.
Kingcracker, did you ever play the Nintendo 64 Version, the Crystal Shards? That one was a lot of fun too.

Pff, of course Ive played the 64 one Really, the only Kirby game Im not a fan of, again, is Epic Yarn. It feels like it was made for my daughter, but the trailers made it look like it would be a new take on the same old games. And it fell flat IMO.

The problem is Epic Yarn was made for children. So... yeah. It's not meant for us fans. My nephew loved it though.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Kirby is the best, screw Mario its all about the pink ball that sucks in enemies and takes their powers. I'm still upset with my mom because she got rid of our NES with Kirby's Adventure and that was when I six, so that would be 15 years of discontent because of that incident.

Man, it's just one more reason to buy a Wii...Between Zelda, Super Smash Bros, Metroid Prime, and this I'm sure I won't be able to resist much longer

Resist then. Spring of next year the Wii:U is suppose to drop. Its backwards capable with all Wii games, and it has more power/better graphics then a PS3. If your interested, search the game section for my Wii:U thread, theres a bunch of info on them in it.

Well Ive gotten alot farther into the game. The level designs are starting to feel a little.....reused, even though they are different, they still give you that rehashed feeling. I hope that makes sense There are alot of mini bosses, and they are exactly the same, except for one will be orange, and the another can be red for example, once you beat one, youve figured out how to beat the rest, so obviously the first 2 are the hardest because your not 100% sure on it yet, after that its a cake walk. The actual Bosses are different, and have different style attacks and such, so some of them can be a pretty challenging fight. At first you just hack away with the Link upgrade or something, but soon you figure out thats a horrible idea. Infact, Ive found that on main bosses, Ill dump my ability, and shoot it at the boss. They all dump stars at some point in their attacks and so those are the best way to attack the bosses. And so far, I fought 1 that actually killed me. It could inhale like a puffer fish, and it just gets bigger and bigger as you damage it more, so towards the end, youve got to be RIGHT ON the thing to be able to suck up the stars. Pretty nice challenge.
So yea, still digging the game overall though, and Ive played multi player with my son for a good 2 hours total on his. It can be helpful, but like Mario Brothers Wii, you can really hoe your ally as well The game still looks pretty good and if your familiar with Kirbys DreamLand, youll see alot of throw backs to that game on the NES. Some of the bosses are the same and there are plenty of specials that come strait from that game, but they just look so much prettier, and on a game like this thats what you want.

Well I beat the game. And I must say, it was definitely a challenge to say the least. It was smash your head against the desk challenging, but you definitely have to stick with it and you WILL lose alot of lives. The story, you helping out a space traveler whos ship crashes to your world and you help him get his parts back from various monsters and what not. As I mentioned previously, the stages look really good, the "upgrades" are really good looking and you find it hard to decide which one is actually your fav.
The bosses range from stage bosses to actual level bosses. The stage bosses are really easy. The level bosses are actually a bit tough, and get tougher the farther you go in the game. The difficulty raises steadily as you progress through the game, so by the time you reach the end, you die alot, and you actually have to think instead of just running and mashing the attack button. There isnt really any puzzles in this game, though the layouts of the stages can prove to confuse you, and so if you want all the little gears your suppose to collect to unlock the challenges then youll have to play through some stages a few times over to get them all.
I havnt done the challenges as my copy of Kirby, freezes everytime I try to goto them, which is a bummer, but until I get that straitened out, Ill just deal with it. The final boss, who I wont mention, though it isnt much of a surprise, is really tough, and is a cool design as well. And this guy is definitely a boss, not some push over that you feel like you were jipped, I mean, this guy will kick you ass and laugh at you while doing it. I found I was switching between upgrades, and then dumping the upgrades and sucking up stars to shoot at him constantly, so you are definitely being challenged on not just your skill at the game, but challenged on how quick your fingers can move to do 3 thigns at once
Once you beat the main baddie, you beat the game, AND it unlocks more special things. A section that you can mess around with the music in the game, an arena which Im guessing you can battle with friends (again I found out my copy was bugged ) and an EXTRA! option. When you click that, you basically play the same game again, but its ALOT harder.......which makes me cringe for when I get to the end of the game. AND to make it even tougher, you have less health then the first time. So harder bosses, that arnt just tougher, but they also have new attacks thrown in the mix as well, so yea itll be a serious gaming session to get this next mode beat.
The game has its problems, and some really awesome perks as well. Overall, Id say its definitely worth buying, specially if you get it on sale or someday find it in a bargain bin. You wont regret it, its challenging, its fun, and it even looks good to boot. Not to mention its incredibly family friendly, and easy enough at lower levels for your young ones to give it a try and not feel like they are playing Final Fantasy.

Epic Yarn wasn't originally a Kirby game anyway. It was Prince Fluff's (the player 2 character) but Nintendo suggested Kriby.

Kirby is the only character who sucks and doesn't suck at the same time, plus its a boyish character who is pink. Kirby is the bravest mofo in all of Nintendo's lineup.
