So I grabbed one for my fledgling Guard force as I've always loved the model (used to have four on my previous Guard force long sold) and of course the Gaunts Ghosts novel that introduced them to me. I've downloaded the update to my old IA1 book, and I'm trying to figure out how they work, and I'm left asking myself are they even a viable choice.

It seems I'd be better off using it as a Leman Russ or a Eradicator thanks to the Lumbering Behemoth rule, yes I'd lose the co-axil, but that can represent a pintle mount if need be.

The points reduction is nice, but for the loss of the advantage to move and shoot with most guns, it seems not so hot. Maybe if they'd let the conqueror roll two dice and pick the highest, or just roll two dice on top of the 6" to represent the 'increased mobility' it is supposed to have for the same points as a Leman it would be have been a useful tank, but right now, it seems pointless.

I am wondering if I'm missing something?

Not sure if this is tactics or discussion.

Definitely not YMDC so will put it in discussion for now.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Meh ... its forgeworld yet another reason that people are suspicious of IA.

What you're lemen russ is cheaper then all the others? Oh it also has a good all round weapon that kills space marines and light tanks? Well at least its still a slow mover ... Oh they left that rule out ...

Rule of thumb don't spring this on any one, it will not make you friends.

Dang, and I was going to put in Discussion, but saw the rules questions go YMDC post at the top and couldn't decide if it was a rules query or not.

Thanks for the save mind.

@Tri, aye I thought that, but (and I might be remembering wrong, sadly no rulebook to hand) but the ability to speed around and shoot the main gun at cruising, is out weighed by the slower, but fire everything at 6" the normal Leman's have thanks to LB, well in my mind anyways.

Weight of fire power. Always remember weight of fire power. Because collective escalation of damage will multiply after each round which reduces your weight of fire power.

Well that's the thing about Lumbering Behemoth it only lets you fire the turret in addition to what ever you'd normally be able to shoot and only up to combat speed.

So you can fire one weapon and the turret when moving 6" ... Vs Fire one weapon...
If you want another gun its not exactly expensive to add another LR

The price and combined with AV14 and a Str8 blast weapon are what make this so special.

The conqueror dates from a time when the Leman russ COULD NOT move and fire ordnance (which is why the gun is only 'Heavy').

It's sadly been bypassed by rules editions and is now a less than adequate choice.

Although the lumbering behemoth rule does allow it to fire two 'main' weapons (turret and another), so it's not completely sucky.
