Hey guys

I'm playing a flash tournament on November 6th (rules at the bottom of the post) and I'm contemplating the following lists:

Assault Marines + Devastators (500)

Assault Squad
Power Fist
Flamer
in
Razorback
Lascannon/Twin-linked Plasma

Assault Squad
Power Fist
Flamer
in
Razorback
Lascannon/Twin-linked Plasma

Devastator Squad
4x Missile Launcher

DoA Assault(500)

Assault Squad
+5 Marines
2x Meltas
Power Fist
Infernus Pistol

Assault Squad
+5 Marines
2x Meltas
Power Fist
Infernus Pistol

The above lists are my two favorites. Apart from that, I've been tinkering with the following:

Mech Assault(500)

Sang Priest
Power Sword

Sang Priest
Power Sword

Assault Squad
Power Fist
Flamer
in
Razorback
Lascannon/Twin-Linked Plasma

Assault Squad

Razorback
Lascannon/Twin-Linked Plasma

Scouts/Devastators (500)

Scout Squad
5x Scouts
10x Snipers

Scout Squad
5x Scouts
10x Snipers

Devastator Squad
4x Missile Launchers
in
Razorback
Lascannon/Twin-Linked Plasma

Assault/Snipers (500)

Assault Squad
Power Fist
in
Razorback
Lascannon/Twin-Linked Plasma

Assault Squad
Power Fist
in
Razorback
Lascannon/Twin-Linked Plasma

Scouts
5x Scouts
10x Sniper Rifles

Any feedback on those lists? As mentioned, the top two are my favorites, but I'm unsure if I should be taking a harder look at any of the others, or making switches. If anyone has a good bike/speeder list, that would be welcome too.

Here are the flash tournament rules we'll be playing by:

1+ troop choice
Rest follows the normal force org. chart. (max 3 fast elite heavy etc.)
no 2+ armour
nothing with 3 or more wounds.
No model over 100 points (including upgrades)
Armour value of tanks cannot go over 33 points (front+side+rear)
Maximum 2 armoured vehicles.
No large blast weapons.
No Monstrous creatures.
No named characters.

I am a bit unclear on the rules. Do you need an HQ choice?

From 3++

"Because your captain is smarter than Belial and all templar commanders ever, he doesn't discard his iron halo when you dress him up as a terminator. Remember this."

Nope, not necessary.

Also, since it seems that you will not be facing many heavily armored targets, have you considered the possibility of replacing a missile launcher with a heavy bolter in your Devastator squad to give it more shots. On the same train of thought, I don't know the BA codex well, but consider taking an assault cannon on one of your Razorbacks

I like the first two lists the most. For me, it comes down to what you expect to face, but I kind of like the one with the Devastators. Missile Launchers would be great against any of the vehicles you can expect to face, since the toughest would be a Chimera, and they'd help a lot against Dark Eldar.

The second list is also good, but I'd worry about Ork lists with a lot of Boyz, since it really isn't feasible to get a Priest in there. Without FC, you kill about 5 Boyz on the charge from the regular attacks, so against a 20 Boy squad with a PK nob, you face 28 attacks back minimum, which will cost you 1-2 Marines, plus you'll lose another 1-2 from the PK. So, you kill 6-7, and lose 2-4. I don't think that's attrition you want to suffer, as you kill around 40 points but you lose 40-80. I left out the results from shooting, but that can keep you out of charge range.

I guess I'd also be worried about Space Wolves, as you don't really have any real advantage when you charge them, and they have a cost advantage.

So, I'd go with the first list unless you think the meta will be more geared towards hunting vehicles.

I think FNP and plasma and flamers are the order of the day. I would guess scenery will be tight and the boards small, so even if someone had brought tons of tanks they will not be able to get gun lanes or freedom to move.

Also I wouldn't take a mix of infantry and tanks. You'll probably find people have a few antitank weapons and a few antiinfantry so can deal with a mix but not with an all metal/flesh front.

I would rework the jump pack armies to get a priest in. That would be 15 assault marines and a priest, so maybe something like this would be better.

165 honour guard with jump packs
100 librarian with wings and some other power
100 5 man assault squad
70 4plasma/4flamers/2meltabombs for honour guard
40 powerfist plasma for assault squad
25 pts as I failed.

Else go for three razorback assault squads, then you also can take 5 sniper scouts instead of equipping the troops if you felt so inclined. Plasma guns would be good for the 5 man troops for the range.

I would imagine you will not get enough good gun lanes just to bring snipers and dev. squads. They are really fixed once deployed and with limited units the enemy should be able to mostly avoid LOS.

I think other codices would do a landspeeder list better. Maybe considering a bike list with a priest would be fun, this is assuming people can not deal with T4(5) and FNP.

This is just a few ideas which I hope may help .

EDIT:I unlike Doom Mouse can not seem to read the rules.

Any reason for using the Honor Guard over Veterans? Should get almost the same unit for the same price, except they'd be able to assault if deepstriking, which I might end up doing against shooty armies.

Edit: Oh wait, you were doing the honor guard with blood chalice for FnP/FC?

In the first list you've got the wrong wargear. You don't want a power fist and strike last in combat with the flamer. You want a power weapon and will be needing a Priest to make that power weapon S5 I5.

The third list Priests don't have power weapons, you never want your Priest in base to base contact in assault.

Fourth list that many Scouts doesn't seem worth it really and the single tank will be taken out or a target, even in 500 point games.

Played list one and it was awesome. Played three games:

First against a GK list, which I won. It was capture points but I almost won on annihilation, since the GK player only had one model left on turn 4. That model survived but I won holding the only point.

Second match gave me the worst match-up possible; A Tau player on an open map. I said on beforehand that it was really the only setup I felt I didn't have a chance against and I was right. He won (not just the map, but he ended up winning the entire tournament) and I didn't really stand a chance.

Third match pitted me against an infantry guard player. I chose deployment zone and after he set up, I asked him the range on his weapons. He almost had nothing 48 inches, so In the first turn, I backed up my razorbacks as far as I could, and started shooting him. Since almost all his stuff was out of range, he started moving his troops forward. After a turn or two, I moved on him and my assault squads came out. I won that one too.

So I went 2-1 today, which I'm fairly happy with Next tournament is in a month, I'll put my potential lists up then too.

Congrats. Obviously, 500 point games are going to be hard to balance. What was the Tau player's list?

He played this list:

Tau Empire (499pts)

Fire Warrior Squad (155pts)
- 6x Fire Warrior
- 1x Devilfish Transport with Disruption Pod and Flechette Discharger

Fire Warrior Squad (60 pts)
- 6x Fire Warrior

XV8 Battlesuit (95 pts)
- 1x Shas'ui Team Leader with Plasma Rifle, Missile Pod, Targetting Array, Hard-wired Multi-Tracker, Hard-wired Blacksun Filter + Shield Drone

XV8 Battlesuit (77 pts)
- 1x Shas'ui Team Leader with Plasma Rifle, Missile Pod, Targetting Array, Hard-wired Multi-Tracker

XV8 Battlesuit Team (112 Pts)
- 1x Shas'ui Team Leader with Flamer, Missile Pod, Multi Tracker + Shield Drone
- 1xXV8 Battlesuit with Flamer, Missile Pod, Multi Tracker

Parked his fire warriors and devil fish on his marker and used his four battle suits to hammer my razorbacks as I went towards them. Next month we're playing 1000 and I'm pretty confident in my list for that.

That's a pretty rough list, especially if there was some terrain he could jump behind. At 1000, you can include some Vanguard Veterans if you go with a jumpers list or Predators if you go mech, both of which are tough for him to deal with.

Yeah, I basically got the worst table possible. These big 6-7 round plateaus that aren't big enough to cover my razorbacks completely but big enough for a crisis suit to jump out, fire and get back. Lost a razorback in turn two, another in turn three and I wasn't close enough to his point to take them. It was a bit of a nightmare. I'll start on the 1000 point list soon
