Quick Question: Are Krak Grenades assault or defense grenades? What advantages to they confer in CC. If they are assault, do SM get access to defensive grenades at all?
Thanks in advance.

They're just anti-vehicle grenades.

This, and to clarify, krak grenades are neither assault grenades nor defensive grenades. They, like melta bombs, offer the basic trooper some more damaging capabilities in close combat with vehicles. Don't forget you have them when that Deff Dread makes it to your lines.

Okay. Thanks all. Do marines get access to any defensive grenades?

Not that I can think of. I believe that the Iron Clad Dreadnought has defensive grenades, but that's purely from memory (and could be wrong). Go read the entry.

Most Marines just have Frag (assault grenades) and Krak (anit-vehicle grenades).

Ironclad has frag launchers (upgrade) not defensive grenades.

Only Chaos Plague Marines to my knowledge. It's not a common piece of wargear.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Krak Grenades for Guardsmen reminds me of the scene in Saving Private Ryan where they try to sticky bomb a tiger and one explodes prematurely, taking the two troopers with it.

To be fair, twas a rather improvised weapon. Combat engineers (especially German combat engineers) often had great success engaging enemy armor at close range with better prepared explosives.

But this is the Imperial Guard being supplied by the Departemento Munitorum, if its not a lasgun or fething size three lasgun cells, Guardsmen are better off improvising.

There's nothing generally wrong with departmento munitorum weapons, just that they're rather stingy with handing certain weapons out and expect everything to survive in tip top shape no matter what happens or how ridiculous the circumstances.
