New to the game and have several questions. Lets say I have a Big Mek with a KFF in the middle of 30 boys that gets assaulted. I know the IC is treated as its own unit for the assault and must be moved first towards btb contact. My questions are 1, if there is not room between my other models bases can i still move the IC or is he stuck untill the units in front of him move. 2, I Know my IC must be in btb contact to attack, but dose he need to be in btb contact to be attacked. Thank you for any input.

Covered in the rulebook FAQ:

Q: An Independent Character attached to a unit that is
reacting to being assaulted, or making a pile-in move,
must move before other friendly models to attempt to
get in base contact with an enemy. What happens if
the Independent Character is blocked from getting to
enemy models by friendly models around him? (p49)
A: If it is possible to move friendly models out of the
way to make space for the Independent Character then
they must move first. Followed by the Independent
Character and finally the rest of the unit can move. If
the Independent Character is still unable to make it
into base contact he must move as close to the enemy
as possible.

1. make space through friendly models for him.
2. nothing changes the fact that he can only be attacked by something that is in base to base with him, and anything else within 2" of the model(s) atatcking him that is not also in base contact with something else.

Also, if the boyz are assaulting the big mek does NOT need to move first. You still follow the rules for assaulting (move closest model, then move each other model).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
