So I am a Tau player....

and i have about 9 XV8's on the field and about 2 XV88's....so here is the idea....

I really want to make an XV-88 or even an XV8 with all things being magnetized.

Personally i love the idea of Tau accepting other races in to their society...be it they are third rate citizens but still.......to the chase;
I have been pondering the idea of taking an Imperial guard sentinel or a Eldar war walker doing some conversions on it and have it emerge as a joint race
engineering effort to give a means for another race (working with the tau) to utilize Tau crisis suit technology (be it still acting as a XV8 or XV88 proxy on tabletop) but still......conversions are fun.

i wanted to run the idea by all of you before i invested in this venture.....what does Dakka think of this idea?
my primary concern is that walkers have a significantly larger base than the XV8's or 88's.

Fluffwise, I can maybe see human auxiliaries with a Sentinel with "upgraded" weaponry, but not a War Walker because no Eldar is going to join the Greater Good.

In regards to the base size and general size and shape differences; it depends on the type of individuals you play with. If you play with your friends I assume they would ok with it, but more serious minded players might dislike it for various reasons.

I can't see Tau ever fielding a War Walker or Sentinel themselves, but they do use alien mercenaries (even humans), and I can see a mercenary force looting a War Walker or Sentinel, and repairing/improving it into a rough XV8/88 equivalent. The Tau would snigger patronisingly at such a 'primitive junkpile', but not object to it fighting on their side.

Modelwise, I agree base size is a issue - for serious games and especially tournies, you need to do everything you can for any counts-as models to match the dimensions and base of the standard model.
