Anyone checked this out yet? Alessio Cantore's new sci-fi mini game. Can't seem to get any details on mini scale, even at Manic games' site, but the minis in the starter box look like orks and squats. The squats even have an artillery piece that looks like an old school thudd gun with 4 barrels. The armies are the marauders and the forge fathers.

Haven't read much about it yet, but found it interesting to see the forge fathers given that "bring back the squats!!" conversations still show up with regularity...

Just got mine in the mail today. It is close to GW 40K/WFB scale, whatever you prefer to call that. Similar height, but not as bulky.

I bought it for the minis not the rules. The Marauders/Orx will make excellent Gorkamorka Orks. They are about the same size and posture as the old GoMo orks, but much nicer. Lots more poses too. The Raptor will make a nice buggy.

The Forge Father veterans and Hailfire gun are a little too high tech for the gang skirmish games I play, but even if I never use them, it was still well worth the money.

Alessio CALVATORE, not Cantore.

I've seen it.
The Orx Marauder trike thing (raptor?) is huge and cool looking.
The armoured squats, not so much.

Never been big on the short folk.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

The models really suck. What the hell are they anyway?! Power armoured dwarves?!

AOW make amazing mini's, mantic I've always been less impressed with.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Must have had the weather channel on the brain when I made my original post. It is always funny, though, when people correctly you incorrectly. Hahahahahahaha!

I have been looking at the marauders. How do they measure up compared to 40k ork boyz?

Marauders are taller and thinner than 40k Orks. But still fairly bulky. The Marauder Chief is an absolute beast though. Shame it's not multi pose

why are you just seeing this as a replacement model source for 40k , have you not read up of followed the development, the rules look ok , the models , for ther price , a great deal.

If this plays better than GW , arent you just denying yourselves?

Yes and no. It really depends on how much you've invested in 40k up to this point. I currently have 6 40k armies and multiple friends who I play with semi-regularly. Looking at alternate sources of minis is a nice thing given the prices of GW's products these days. To just switch games, though, would require me to buy full new armies, convince my friends to do likewise and push them to buy the new game too.

Not exactly as simple as just switching games. Lots of factors involved in making that change...

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I've just picked up a boxset of 10 Marauder (Ork) grunts just to see how they are.

Pretty nice sculpts, and I like the design aesthetic, definitely based from the RT-era conception of the 'Ork' rather than the current Brian Nelson, ape-like model. Even the box the models come in looks like an old VHS cassette box!

Personally I think for the price they are great, comparable quality and you will either like the design of them or not.

For the price you won't much better tbh..I have a small(ish) collection of the much maligned Elves from Mantic and I think they are great!
All Mantics mini's seem to be 'TrueScale' as opposed too GWs 'HeroicScale' and I reckon they look better for it, slightly more realistic (as far as fantasy mini's go). The good news for you, Pacific, is that all Mantics Squads come in those handy VHS style boxes! I think I'll try too pick up a Fate Of The Forgestar set myself actually...it intrigues me.
