Greetings fellow forum lurkers. Bobbles here, working on a new Nid army list (located here). While I am posting in other parts looking for tips on my list, I figured I'd post here too with some questions for good HS and TR choices for Nids.
So...
1. Is having a Stranglethorn Cannon ever a good idea in a Nid army, and if so, what's the best way to get one in?
2. Is a Tyranofex worth the points? Do they work better than fex's? What options have worked best for people?
3. What's better: Half a brood of Stealers with TS, or half a brood of Hormagaunts with TS?
4. Is it worth it to take a Broodlord?
5. I've heard several people say to take 2 Tyrgon Primes as well as 2 Tervigons. Taking 2 costs a big chunk of points. Is it worth it?
Danke.

1. Stranglethorns seem fine on Fexes or Tyrants against light infantry. Very little experience with it.
2. I've heard mixed things about the Tyrannofex, but I'm going to give it a try. I think it's a good source of anti-tank, mounted on a solid platform.
3. Stealers
4. I don't think so, but I've never been tempted to try.
5. Tervigons are amazing, total yes. Primes are also good, but compete with Tyrants. Depends on your list.

1. Its an average weapon, but 'Nids generally don't have an issue with anti-troops. Most of the models who can take one are much better served by a HVC, and if you really need the blasts then why not consider Biovores?
2. They are hilariously durable. However, do not make the mistake of only using the Rupture Cannon. You will want to advance with it, blasting the Rupture as you go in order to use his other abilities. He can pack a tremendous punch to infantry and beyond Lance-spam or a stupid mistake with movement, hes fairly invulnerable. Expensive but worthwhile, plus he takes rpessure off your Hive Guard.
3. Generally the Genestealers. Infiltrate is just invaluable, far more so than the speed. Also Broodlords.
4. Yes.
5. Well I would consider the Tervigons mandatory, at any rate. Trygons are a fantastic beatstick and can be relied upon to make a mess, you just need to evaluate that yourself. 'Do I need a bigger combat presence?' Yes = Trygon, No = T-Fex. Worth noting that the Prime upgrade is not needed unless you are really lacking Synapse or expect him to run into Grey Knights unsupported.

1. Is having a Stranglethorn Cannon ever a good idea in a Nid army, and if so, what's the best way to get one in?
I don't particularly like the gun, but if you're going to work it in then put it on a Tyrant (or failing that, a Fex).
2. Is a Tyranofex worth the points? Do they work better than fex's? What options have worked best for people?
From my understanding, they are better than a Fex, and worth the points but extremely costly. Rupture Cannon is easily the best weapon for them, they can take a ton of punishment as well and keep going.
3. What's better: Half a brood of Stealers with TS, or half a brood of Hormagaunts with TS?
Depends what we mean by half a brood I guess. Like, 15 Hormagaunts vs 10 Genestealers? IMHO Genestealers, but I would take 15 of them (they die too easily to shooting so it makes up for that). Also, I always take my Hormagaunts with TS and Adrenal Glands - that way when they charge they will get to reroll the 4+ to wound against MEQ. If you're tailoring and know you're fighting Guard, then drop the AG.
4. Is it worth it to take a Broodlord?
They're combat beasts. I usually run them, but if you're tight on points then I'd refrain from it.
5. I've heard several people say to take 2 Tyrgon Primes as well as 2 Tervigons. Taking 2 costs a big chunk of points. Is it worth it?
1 Tervigon isn't worth it, because it will likely konk out early. 2 adds some redundancy. Same with the Trygons - 1 will soak up fire for a single turn and die, whereas 2 will likely get off at least 1 charge.

Nothing wrong with SC per se, but you can only take it on MCs where a lot of your high S shooting comes from. I prefer TL devourers where possible and HVC if you really need the S9. AV here is more important than AI.
Problem with tyrannofex is 260 pts for no invul save and a woeful BS3. BS4 and I might see a place for it. When you really need it to hit it will miss twice, just like a brood of zoanthropes!
Love stealers, hormogaunts just seem to be stealer lite. If AG/TS were only 1 point each then I might be tempted.
Broodlord has always worked for me when I've used him, even if just having the one model with higher toughness and armour to allocate a shot to. He is an IC killer, if you are up against mass troops then 3 more stealers if often better points spent.
Trygons - pairs or not at all, works best with AG, prime upgrade is optional. Tervigons are almost a must take now. Free troop spawning, synapse, catalyst all on a T6,W6 troop choice. Win.
