Hello, Dakka.

Following through with my Warlord Titan build (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/364863.page), I started work on a Reaver Titan. Seeing as the only available template, the Praxis Pattern, is designed to closely mimic the older ArmorCast Reaver Titan, I decided to design a Lucius Pattern Reaver Titan from scratch.

Here's a picture of the first template designs:

Almost none of the initial template draft has made it even this far, and I've still got a bit more to do in the design department.

To ensure the scale is correct and the pieces will "look right" when assembled, it's very important to build a mock-up. Here, I'm cutting out the bits from a copy of the template:

Now we apply some rubber cement:

This stuff is fantastic for scratch-builders who use templates. I cannot recommend it highly enough:

All of the template bits I need are glued down to the cardboard:

Now they're cut out and are being taped together:

There's really no point in doing anything more involved than taping a mock-up together. The mock-up is typically only used to see if the pieces fit together correctly and the scale is right without having to use more expensive materials.

And we have our semi-built monstrosity:

Kill... Me...

In this shot, I made a rough-cut of what the head will sort of look like and about where it will be positioned in relation to the torso. I also added the "arm" support bits on the model's left side.

A very, very poor shot of how it scales next to my Warlord Titan:

This picture is really just meant to let me know if I'm moving in the right direction. With everything in place, the model should come out to 16" at the top of the carapace and a little less than 20" with the Apocalypse Missile Launcher (or whichever weapon I decide to put up top) attached. I determined the scale based on the information for the Mars Patter Reaver Titan from the Forge World website.

I do plan to upload the templates (somewhere) when I finish them and make sure they work correctly. Odds are, once I finish the Reaver, I'll post the templates I worked up online.

More as the project continues, and thanks for looking!
