I got some stormboys for my birthday, and figure they would go well with my footslog ork army.

But the thing is that I don't have a clue how to use them. Basically, I have 6 with a big choppa nob and will be expanding this to 11 soon.

Any tactics?

We have them, to go with our expanded AOBR orks, love them so far...
Basically, pick a target that you'd go for with normal boys.
get there sooner and tie stuff up... beat some heads untill you die/flee or the horde catches up.

We have boys, Nobs, Deffkoptas, and Stormboys...
the only thing I can suggest with the stormboys, is use them like faster boys, and get more!!!

good luck...
and if you don't have AOBR, the orks in it are a decent set, the Deffkoptas are nice models, and seem to work for my wife well when she plays them...
I'm hoping the next set is a good one, of we may not keep up with 40K... Warmachine has our hearts at the moment...

I would never play them with a foot slogging list. If they rush ahead they will just die like the small unprotected but expensive boyz mob they are.

You want at least 12. They go really well with trukks. The trukk boyz charge the closest squads and the stormboyz who have been hiding behind trukks fly over and get the hard to reach areas.

Stormboyz are for tying up that pesky unit and for crushing tanks. You need a PK.

I would take a maximum squad of 20. Or a squad of 15. Lower than that is not effective.

You have a couple of options. DS'ing behind BLOS in the enemy deployment. Usually the best way of making sure they get their in one piece. But I wouldn't choose it because you want to hit hard and fast before they can damage your Boyz.

You put them behind a screen at the front or behind BLOS in your deployment If it's upfront anyway. They then move like lighting with huge effective charge ranges.

they can work in a footlogging lists, to tie up shooty stuff and annoy the enemy

The thing about stormboyz is they are just fast boyz. Boyz are barely more resilient than a grot, this means you need to take many of them. Personally I've found any less than 40 is just bolter bait. Which can be fine and all... But 2 units of 40 gives you a broad front that should get a turn 2 assault over a good sized front. Even if they don't kill what they charge, they should buy a turn free of shooting for the rest of your army to arrive.

Any ork unit should have a PK... Fast PKs are the ork lascannon.

Yes you can use them in footslogging lists, AND in speedfreak lists. But DONT use them aggressively, and they will be stars in your army. I know, that sounds odd, but its true. Example

b b b b b b b b b b
-b b b b b b b b b b
S S S S S
-S S S S S

B= boyz
S= Stormboyz (effective I know )

SO this is basically what you do, you use stormboyz to bolster your boyz assaults. Boyz arnt the end all be all, but they honestly are pretty damn good all around. They can pump out shots, and do decently well in assaults. So you move, then shoot off (obviously you are running if your a slugga guy, but Ima shoota guy so there) to take a few out, then assault with the boyz like normal. Now you got a unit of Stormboyz to leap in and add weight/PK attacks to the assault. Rinse and repeat.

They get a 4+ cover save most the time from the boyz infront, and they are plenty fast to dive bomb on a random drop podder, or out flanker, as well as being fast enough to where they should be able to get into the assault when a unit needs bodies.

Really only two ways to use them:

1) Zagstrukk
If you like the gamble, use him. If you roll a hit or at least a favorable scatter you have decent chance to turn the game around right there. You get 20(-1d3) boyz charging from the sky, with a powerklaw striking at initiative, which will mess up your opponent's plans greatly. Afterwards he has to kill every single boy in the unit, as they will never fail a moral check due to Zagstrukk's Violent Temper rule. On the other hand, if you scatter out of assault range or get a mishap you're screwed.
2) Hide
Never, ever allow your opponent to get a clear shot at them until they are ready to charge. While they are the fastest JI in the game, they're still boyz. Often you see people using them like bikes, getting to the front as fast as possible in a straight line. Don't. They don't have 4+ armor/cover or T5, and we all know what happens if boyz out of cover get too close to the enemy.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

We've had good results, and so far our army is still all on foot untill we get Battlewagons...
We mainly use them to get to things that need tied up or harrassed for a turn or two, to get the boys into combat at strength... similar to how we use the Deffkoptas, but they are more a bait unit, the TL Rokkits have been hit or miss or miss or miss.....LOL, but when they hit they can pop targets decently... they have mostly been just a harrassment unit, where the Stormboys have actually done more killing,.. we need 10 more...

I've always wanted to make an ork list with all the elite slots in kommandos, one squad with snikrot, and all the fast attack in stormboyz, one with zagstruck, along with lots of trukk boyz, everything painted like veitnam orks. It would be the most fluffy blood axe list ever, but all of your units would be all over the enemy hilariously fast is you played it right.

They're expensive, and die just as fast as normal boys, so either:
- deepstrike them with Zagstruk
- or hide them (behind terrain or other troops) until the turn they'll charge

Same here, some day Ill have enough of everything to be able to do such a thing. And I bet that would hit like a 10ton hammer, and from everywhere even.

Everytime i think about playing spearhead against a parking lot using this list and getting some good rolls on my outflanking kommandos, with some good deepstrikes, i just can't resist an evil cackle. Good luck using any templates NOW, bitch! How do those meltaguns feel when they're preforming less effieciantly then lasguns, Eh? Well that's what you get for downloading a list off the internet, you sad little man! Eat my powerklaw that hits on initiative 5! And my potential 24" threat range! Not that it matters, seeing as you deployed in a cube! Those teef or mork feel good to ya? How 'bout my furious charge? Ya like that? Huh? DO YOU?!

...

Sorry, i hate netlists, especially leafblower.
