Quick release before the Perfect Storm stuff hits: a new terrain piece for Heavy Gear Blitz:

This resin piece (Available now for $29.95 Canadian as a DP9 Online Store Exclusive) is a 1/144 scale terrain piece intended for Heavy Gear.

A neat feature is that it's built with modularity in mind: the kit includes two 'hallway/access door' pieces that can be attached to the tower as doors to the main tower or used to connect to the Defense Turrets (sold separately).

Here's a picture with a turret connected and infantry and a Gear for scale:

And how tall are those models that are used for scale?

They're 1/144 scale.

The Gear (On the right, in blue and grey) is roughly comparable to a 'large human' from 40k...I'd say somewhere between a Terminator and a Space Marine.

Infantry are roughly 12mm.

The gear (mecha) on the right side of the picture is probably just a bit shorter than your average 28mm miniature.

I'd try to dig out some 40k minis to take a pic for comparison, but I don't have one of the new kits yet, and it'd be unpainted resin for quite a while in my hands. :(

Would make a good automated defense array for 28mm minis.

Also should note that the item in question is just the tall center piece, the shorter side "rooms" are optional at additional cost.

It does include the one small 'outrigger' tower. The unarmed one shown in the top picture.

A feature I like is the 'connectors' are modeled so they can be used with defense turrets if you've got a set, or can be used as extended doorway hallways.

Looking at store the kit is just this one...

Nice kit dont know how many euros are 30 canadian dollars but seems a bit expensive... Also the exclusive thing is never good.

The kit ships with the main tower (including ball turrets, antenna, and some add-ons like a ramp piece), the side extension piece (with attached connector) and two of the hallway pieces. Defense Turrets are sold separately.

I believe it's exclusive as a lot of stores don't like carrying a lot of terrain kits.

There's not many in canon. The closest it one of the mysteries of the setting is why the colony world of Terra Nova is sprinkled with giant carved stone heads, but they're more Easter Island or even Asian and not very Skull-ish:

I think the place where this goes completely freaky is there is an in-setting 'wall of faces' where a cliff-side has been carved into thousands, but that's about it.

(Hmmm... I think I have a couple stone heads around. May get one of the outposts and mount it on a base with a stonehead for decor.)

Oh, to be pedantic the Southern forces are described in canon as using skull-shaped kill marker as unofficial tokens for Gear pilots.

Does Dakka Dakka need to start a series of articles called "Skulls in..." detailing use of skull iconography in various games? "Skulls in Heavy Gear." "Skulls in Infinity" "Skulls in Monopoly".... Etc...

Gathering the Informations.

As Balance said, skulls aren't really something big in Heavy Gear.

Elaborating upon what he said, Heavy Gear is more like Infinity--a Western game with a very 'real world' anime flair. You can see it in some of the artwork within the books, namely of the pilots.

I noticed, and those giant heads are cooler then an entire island carved out to be shaped like a pile of skulls (forgetting for some reason the steriotypical pirate skull island) or the table with the cracks filled with skulls or the...etc etc
speaking of heavy gear, is their starter set any good?

I'm a corporate shill, I mean, web guy for DP9, so I admit my opinion is biased. However: The current starter Two Player Starter Kit is really meant as an easy way to get a taste of the game. It's basically the 'demo kit' a lot of the Pod Squad demo team uses: Enough minis to play a 3 on 3 game to demonstrate the basic mechanics, but you're not going be able to jump to a 'true' game without some work. The regular game is squad based (I.E. players alternating activating squads) while the demo is more individual model based, so you don't get some of the squad interactions and such.

It does come with a full (albeit 'fun-sized') rule book (actually two: Use the Field Manual for the core rules, use Locked & Loaded for background and army lists).

If you want to expand,t he included minis can be sued individually in most Northern and Southern forces (They're basic trooper-type models). depending on the specific factions, you can go from a three model 'team' to a true 'squad' by adding one two-pack. This gives you some options, such as adding a two-pack of one design might make it a Fire Support squad, while another two-pack might be usable to make the existing minis into a Strike squad.

The faction-specific starter army sets are a bit better deal savings-wise, but they're more expensive up-front, so I can understand being hesitant. Most of the starter army sets have the appropriate books for the army and the core rules and a couple squads, usually enough to make over 500 points (a lot of people play 1000 point games).

If you want to check out the rules and background, I'd recommend Locked & Loaded from DTRPG if you're cool with PDFs. As with the starters above it includes the field guide so it's up-to-date.

Those heads have been on my "must have" terrain list for a while. Sadly right now Im not able to do any modeling, and must buying to a minimum, as we are staying with family pending a move out of state. Once we are done with our move and into a place of our own again modeling and collecting shall resume full scale.

They're fun to help dress scenery up. I wish S6-Engineering was still in business: I would have liked to get a small-scale 'Town Circle' to go with the rest of the roads I have bought from them just so I could have a big stone head in the middle of it. The Stoneheads fit good on the 40k big flat bases (the ones IG Infantry Teams use) or on CDs for bigger pieces.

it's pretty arguable. The CEF is the clearest 'enemy' but no one is really 'perfect.' The North and South fight each other as well amongst themselves. The North and South also have several sub-armies: For example, a "South" army could actually be MILICIA (combined force known for limited budget), Southern Republic Army (Elites from the honor-and-backstabbing Southern Republic that rules the South), Humanist Alliance ("Perfect" society, with caste-based culture and a focus on crewed units), ESE (feudal nobles that raise their own armies), or Mekong Dominion (Corporate-run nation with a heavy commerce focus). Some of these are more or less 'evil' than others, and no one is truly blameless.

The Black Talons are pretty 'good.' They're a sort of 'all star' team from the North, South, and other Terra Novans founded to fight the CEF invaders. They're focused around elite low-model-count forces, so any losses among their ranks can be catastrophic. Also very dependent on stealth and such,
