How competitive do you think Orks are these days? I swear I win most of my games. Granted, I'm amateur playing with a bunch of other amateurs, but I also see them reported winning 2nd and 3rd in tournaments.
Are Orks still that great dispite their aging codex? And if so, what do you think about the lists that are doing the winning?

I'm still a new player (Only a year in) so please take my comments with a grain of salt.

Thanks!

Waaagh!

Not as much as they used to be back in 2007, but still a powerful army in their own right. Only thing that worries me is that there isn't an update slated for them in the near future.

In time, we'll have to resort to dirty tricks such as forceful opponent inebriation to win a game with an ork list... But that's something most armies have to go through from time to time.

I do love Kan Wall, and I have dabbled in BW lists, I really want to build and run a Nob Biker list too...
Still, I have a hell of a time with tanks.

I just play for fun, so I have no clue about proper competitiveness. But my Deffkopta spam + burna wagons keep winning XD

Kan walls and KFFs in battlewagons are scary, and most units in the codex are solid. I don't think Orks will have to resort to dirty tricks until 6th edition drops, and even then we don't know for sure.

Well, here is to hoping they remain a valid army well in to the future. Judging by the codex update schedule, what do you guys think, New Ork codex in 2014?

That's a pretty grim prediction...

Orks are too central & iconic an army to be left for too long.

Or so they would have you believe...

I honestly don't care though, I love the current Ork codex. If 6th screws it up... I'll find a way to make it work. Just like my ogres (pre update).

I admit, I've been an Orc fan since the 70's, so my devotion to the Greenskins is life long. I do really love the current mechanics and "kultur" of the 40K Orks.
At the same time, I'd love to see them get a few changes in the anti-tank dept and maybe one more troop...

Im pretty happy with the ork codex as is, I just think it's wargear options could be a bit more flexible.

Why no 5+ inv save for meganobs?

why cant big-meks have tankhammers?

why dont tankbustas have the tank hunter rule to counter glory hogs a bit?

Orks shouldnt be able to outshoot other armies. They should make a lot of noise which has the potential to be deadly when their shots are actually on target, which is what they do, pretty much. Their power-klaw based anti-tank is fine, the options just need to be less restrictive.
