I'm just starting a river build for fantasy/40k and want to use static grass. Ive always just sprinkled the stuff on in the past with my fingers, but thought I should start looking at applicators.

I've found three types and wondered what peoples opinion of them was? The puffer bottle type, the static ones and the fancy negative ion applicators. Im not doing a huge area, so I'm more concerned with realism than speed of coverage.

Army Painter Tufts work really well. You can find them at most hobby shops online. Quick, easy, and very realistic imho.

It creates a static charge which will put the static grass (ergo its name) on end when it is drawn close to the glued grass. Like when you rub a balloon on your shirt then hold it near to your hair.

I just use one of the puffer bottles plus some tufts, a bit messy but cheap and less hassle than making a NIA.

I just use a puffer bottle.

Came with the "terrain starter" I bought (grass, flock, trees, ballast, road paste).

cbf'd finding another method when this one works fine.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

The price of the puffer bottles is certainly the most appealing! Ill give one of those a go if they work ok.

Thanks guys

Puffer bottle? I just blow gently to make the grass stand up a bit.

The Videos of the Negative Ion Applicators on Youtube are very impressive, but I just don't know if you can rationalize the cost for the amount of work you want to do with it.

I just remembered you can now get GW brand tufts if you want the Porsche of tufts! (£8 for an A5 sheet!)

Anyway I should have pointed you in the direction of Terraingenisis.com previously all sorts of tiPs on this sort of this including a guide to making a NIA from an electric fly swatter. Great site.

That site wont load at the moment, but ill try again later. I thought those fly swatter ones were just static based applicators like the £14.99 ones on ebay?
