Novels. That's it.

Someone shoved For the Emperor in my hands, told me to read it. Case closed.

I either had to start a sport or a hobby. I don't like sports.

I started 40k and have enjoyed it ever since.

I played miniatures wargames already and picked up some Space Marines at a flea market. Playing Dawn of War and reading the 3rd ed rulebook made me want to play 40k proper.

In '94 or '95, I stumbled across a "Gamers Paridise" (a now defunct gaming store chain) in a mall. Warhammer 40k was just about the coolest thing I'd ever seen. Back then they had all kinds of free handouts. I grabbed every one I could find and a year later I got my 2nd edition 40k box set.

Even though I don't play or buy 40k currently, I still acquire/collect various 2nd edition and RT era figures.

In 1995, as I began my first in year in Secondary school, my new friends introduced me to the joys of tabletop wargaming with 40k. They'd gotten into it because one of them had an elder brother who played it. Used to spend my summer holidays with my friends playing Warhammer 40k & FB at the local GW store and...one thing led to another.

Aged 9, me and my then-best mate walked past a GW shop and became hooked on the models. Walked out with the original Ragnar model and the two-headed Skaven BB player. Mid-teens, I left for many years but then moved home from uni and found an unexpected copy of DOW among my things. Played it, enjoyed it, checked out the hobby online. Decided it was a good substitute for certain uni 'habits' I was trying to break. Four years back and I'm not regreting it.

I went to the hobby center to buy some supplies for a sixth grade project with my dad.
I saw two very excellently painted IG armies slaying each other.

My father reluctantly had to take me back later.

Because I've always liked tabletop games and most of the 40k players are over the age of 25. It's also a game that requires thought and preparation. You can't net-deck an army list and expect to do well in 40k.

If not for the mediocre who would be great, and thank goodness for those who are just terrible they make even those who are mediocre look great
