I think I dipped my brush too far into the paint without realising as know there is some dried paint sitting right under the metal of the brush.

What is the best way to remove this dried paint?

I'm thinking in getting some Master's soap to care better for my brushes in the future.

How long is too long to leave paint on a brush before it starts to dry and causes problems? I've heard that you should keep washing the brush regularly even when doing the same colour to avoid build-up?

Many thanks.

Definitely get masters, amazing results.

Do as you've heard. Regular washing, even with the same color, to make sure the paint isn't getting to close to the ferrule.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

Masters is magic. It will seriously blow your mind. When I got it, it was able to restore 7 year old brushes I had been using as dry brushes to new condition. Amazing stuff.

Awesome, thanks for the advice.

Where is the best place to get Master's in the UK? So far the best I've found is £7 for 1oz on ebay (postage inc.).

For how long this stuff lasts I wouldn't get too hung up on a 1 or 2£ difference. Just get it and start using it. Lasts forever if your not a professional painter.

Ooh, another Master's love-thread!

Seriously, though, this stuff is amazing. I was able to free one of my girlfriend's paintbrushes - the thing had spent several years caked in so much fabric paint, a piece of the newspaper she had left it on became permanently embedded in the mess.

I try and rinse regularly during painting, but paint slowly but surely tends to build up around the ferrule, anyway. Giving them a good cleaning with Master's every now and again gets rid of the gunk that regular upkeep won't. Plus, if a brush won't be used for a while, you can build up a lather and leave the stuff in as a tip shaper and bristle conditioner. Your brush tip will be more resilient if moving it, and the bristles will be in better condition than you left them, once you rinse it out.
