Hey guys,

Been reading through the Badab War again, and have to say it's probably one of my most favourite conflicts in the fluff, and certainly is one of the bigger Marine vs. Marine conflicts since the Heresy. If nothing else, it's because (barring the Salamanders all the Marines involved are ones noones ever heard of or know much about. That being said, who is your most and least favourite Chapter that took part in this war?

In case you dont know much about the Badab War, or just dont remember all the chapters off the top of your head, here's the list, according to Forgeworld's IA9-10 (whom I now consider the leading authority on the subject )

Loyalist:
Red Scorpions
Fire Hawks
Marines Errant
Raptors
Fire Angels
Salamanders
Carcharodons (or SPAAAAACE Sharks, if you prefer)
Minotaurs
Exorcists
Howling Griffons
Novamarines
Sons of Medusa
Star Phantoms

Secessionists
Astral Claws (Tiger Claws too, I guess)
Mantis Warriors
Lamenters
Executioners

Let me know if I forgot any Chapter, but Im pretty sure that's all of them. At least, the major players. Anyways, here goes it for me

Most Favourite Loyalist Chapter:
Raptors, because they're Raven Guard successors, I like their colour scheme (green ), and they know how to get gak done. Also, they matched Mantis Warriors in regards to infiltration, ambush tactics and being an all-round PITA to fight.
Honourary mention to Carcharodons, because SPAAAACE SHARKS.

Least Favourite Loyalist Chapter:
None in particular, but I would say Novamarines and Marines Errant, based on colour scheme alone.

Most Favourite Secessionist Chapter
Mantis Warriors, probably for most of the same reasons as the Raptors, barring the Raven Guard successor thing. But still, White Scars successor, so you dont get too many of those. But I mostly like them for their combat doctrine. And the Dust Prophet is a pretty cool character. Also, they stick to their guns, and helped defend a sector from what they saw as an enroachment of Astartes autonomy by the Administratum. Even if they were wrong in the end

Least Favourite Secessionist Chapter
Lamenters. I like their colour scheme, but seriously? Unluckiest chapter, ever? Then again, I suppose that is a trait shared by all those of the 21st Founding, but I find their melancholy behaviour about as annoying as the Doom Eagles.

Have at it guys!

Most Favourite Loyalist Chapter:

Fire Hawks, they are just to awesome and they get gak done.

Least Favourite Loyalist Chapter:

Space Sharks, because they slaughtered million of innocent civilians without any reason.

Most Favourite Secessionist Chapter:

Mantis Warriors, they are just bad-ass marines.

Least Favourite Secessionist Chapter:

Lamanters, being unlucky they are using heart for their Chapter sigma. Seriously, a heart?

Favorite Loyalists-

The Star Phantoms because they gave Lugft some much needed corrective surgery and led the charge against the Palace of Thorns.

Least favorite Loyalists-

Minotaurs. I don't like the High Lords of Terra or their dogs.

Favorite Secessionists-

Lamenters. Their symbol predates them, Sanguinius wore it. They suffer...A lot...But they epitomize the Blood Angels and their successor chapters to me because of how nobly they bear it and their deep seated sense of duty. They're almost as nice to the average Joe as the Salamanders. Check out the Liberation of Slauterhouse III story and see if ya can still hate them. Plus I really liked their Chapter Approved 2001 (I think it was) rules in the 21st founding section. For me, they're cursed with the typical BA faults and something else far, far worse but they still manage to be noble warriors for the Imperium and, above all, mankind and not degenerate into silly Flesh Tearers or Blood Drinkers...And they had the most believable reason for aiding Huron. Didn't really like the Mantis Warriors' reasoning until their chapter master got blown up, then they made sense.

Least favorite Secessionists-

Astral Claws. These guys blithely followed their Huron into damnation.

Though Lugft's fight with Culln on Kritias Secundus was probably one of my favorite moments of the war.

I like the Novamarines for their hard-line attitude and their monodominant philosophy. Most like my Choir Carmine sis' !

And I never liked Red Corsairs... nor Astral Claws, in fact. I find them somewhat less impressive than other renegates.

Unluckiest ever?

I'd say that's the Fire Hawks. Lost two home worlds, then the entire chapter disappeared into the warp to return as the Legion of the Damned.

I'm not entirely sure I liked the FW interpretation of the Fire Hawks, but their paint scheme is pretty cool.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Favorite would be the Blood Angels post-Heresy. Pre-Heresy, Thousand Sons. Least liked, before AND after the Heresy, Space Wolves. They keep acting all high and mighty as though they were above the Imperium. I know all Space Marines are semi-autonomous, but these guys take it to extremes. I've also believed the fall of the Thousand Sons was due to Russ' demonizing Magnus as much as the Sons' practice of sorcery.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

'She sat on the corner, gulping the soup down, uncaring of the heat of it. They had grown more watery as of late she noted, but she wasn't about to beggar food from the Imperials or the "Bearers of the Word." Tau, despite their faults at least didn't have a kill policy for her race.'

Might wanna read my opening post again. Im talking only about those Chapters that participated within the Badab War, which neither the Blood Angels, Space Wolves nor Thousand Sons took part in.

Thousand Sons Battleship wandering the galaxy...

In that case, Lamenters for the most liked, and Minotaurs for least liked. Minotaurs are just like Space Wolves, but add to that the the uncontrollablity of the World Eaters. They've been banned on pain of death from the Realm of Ultramar, and the Ultramarines and many of their Successors hate them as much as they hate heretics.

I liked the Space Sharks ... thought they pulled off the mystery and menace quite well. I thought the Star Phantoms were pretty well done too (even if I did keep thinking of Space Ghost when I saw the name).

Wasn't too keen on the Red Scorpions, actually. I just have this impression (erroneous or not) of them being FW's equivalant of the Ultramarines - ie the rah rah posterboys.

Favourite chapter:
Loyal: Carcharodons. Sharks in space!! They eat people, they are cruel, they are monsters, they are cool.
Traitor: Mantis: different from the rest.

Special mention for Executioners (bound by honor) and Exorcists (nice training).

Least favourite chapter:
Traitor: Lamenters: cry baby emo traitors.
Loyal: Novamarines: oh come on, Novamarines? Worst name since Ultramarines.

Special mention for Astral Claws (poster boys) and Minotaurs (nice name and colors, but...they do stupid things).

Favorite Chapter:

Loyal: Exorcists. The little brothers to Grey Knights but still kicking ass and taking names. Great lore and demands some Forgeworld love for their uniqueness.
Secessionist: Astral Claws. For being brave enough to stand up to the "Powers that be".

Least Favorite:

Loyal: Red Scorpions, especially after they left Inquisitor Lok out to dry in the Anphelion project (IA4).
Secessionist: Lamentors, cry me a river.

Loyalists/ I would go with either Star Phantoms or Sons of Medusa. The SP because they didn't have a colour scheme or much mention in the first Badab war article so it was nice to read about them. Sons of Medusa because I love the IH's and as FerrusFair said " We got kicked out of the Iron Hands for HATING TOO HARD. Think about that for a minute." Very well put.

Least fav loyalists/ Minotaurs..dunno why something just rubs me wrong about them. Maybe they are to much like Space Wolves I dunno.

Fav Secessionists/ Executioners, since I read the first badab war article in WD I've really liked them and their cammo colour scheme. Hell even when GW did one painted SM model from every known chapter the Executioners still had cammo armour...so win win for me =o]

Least fav/ Red Corsairs/Astral Claws, I miss the Tiger Claws. I also painted up some of them for my marine army when I was like 13 or so so I just like them. I think the RC's have just been potrayed so far as 'Generic bad guys twrilling their mustache's' a little to much. So it's not really them its the writing about them that I dis-like. I did like that they tossed in the old tiger claws as Astral Claw sucessors, that was a nice little nod from FW.

In the book Bloodreaver, I really like how ADB potrayed the RC's and there interactions with the Night Lords.

Spoiler:
I especially liked whre they attacked the Marine's Errent Fortress Monesitary and the night lords where hiding behind the RC's terminator's and laughing at them for soaking up all the firepower. That was awsome.

For the rebels... I've got a soft spot for the Lamenters, they've got that bit with all that bad luck and almost getting wiped out on their penance crusade. And according to the fluff, they only sided with Huron because they thought this was an issue with SM sovreignity.

And they're 21st founding. Love the 21st founding

Loyalists: Carcharodons.
Just grim badass lone wolves, kinda melodramatic in a sense but I rather like it.
Also an honorable mention to the Star Phantoms and Raptors.

Secessionists: Executioners
I was quite drawn to the whole honor before all idea, yet retaining their loyalty to the Imperium and that little episode of saving that bunch of sallies and in return being returned to the Emps grace.
They also fondly reminded me of Talos in ADB's NL series.

I love all the Successionist Chapters. They are all so cool. GW really needs to put out a better Huron Blackheart model because FW's Lugft Huron honestly puts it to shame. If I had to pick only one ... no, I can't do it.
