Hey guys, i was working on a Rhino, and i was sealing all the work i had currently done on the model. I was expecting the shine on a transfer to remove but it wasn't, so i decided to go over the model again, it seems that i sprayed far too much on an entire side of the rhino, and a quick rub.... sticky stuff like almost-dry pva glue was rubbing off as well as all the paint! any solutions? or is it just man up and try and salvage something?

Thanks Merlin! another question, after the horror, i noticed that the glossy surface of the transfer was still... glossy? do you know why it is still in this state?

To get a transfer to not look like a transfer you should use the stuff model train guys use. It's like two different solutions that soften it and make it look as much like its painted as it can look. I can't think of the brand but a quick Google and you should be able to find it. just search "water slide transfer solution" or something along that line.

Matte medium might help downplay the gloss.

The stuff I use for decals is Micro Set and Micro Sol. Never let me down yet. I do have some decals from before I started using these that have silvered, but as I coated them in Purity Seal after application they won't do anything now, so the only other option I kn ow is to paoinit over them and start again - not a problem as I am renewing my necrons anyway.

A drastic solution to your problem may be "Fairy Powerspray", although that will almost certainly take all the paint and decals of, leaving you with a fresh model to paint, so only use as a last resort.

Thanks for the tips guys, it's quite interesting since i read a tip somewhere, can't remember where, that painting 'Ardcoat over the transfer and later spraying Matte spray works... evidently it didn't.

Think it does, but you have to ensure you 'Ardcoat before you apply the decals too, so that they have a smooth surface that will not trap bubbles under the decal film.

I find that much too much hassle, especially since GW don't sell 'Ardcoat sprays anymore.

You can use the ard coat gloss varnish in the citidel spray gun to do batch varnishing but you need to make sure you thoroughly wash the spray gun straight after use.
