Daemons are highly variable depending on what point value you're playing at.

Heralds are some of the best heroes in any army book for cost. Tz Heralds with Mastery of Sorcery are pretty damn good.

Bloodletters and Daemonnettes are some of the best Core semi-elite infantry in any army book and can go toe-to-toe with nearly anything of the same point values.

Flamers are probably the best elite ranged troops in the game.

Bloodcrushers are one of the best elite cavalry in the game. Close call with Mournfangs.

O nice! So would grabbing the Battalion Box be worth it?

No. I think you need to figure out what army you want to construct at what point value. You're likely not going to have Horrors + Bloodletters + Seekers + Daemonettes in 1 army. Though you might.

It seems most Core is built around 1 or 2 most. Daemons Battallion is probably one of the suckier ones, simply because of the way the army works.

Likewise, you CAN get a Greater Daemon if you want. At about 1200+ armies you can squeeze in a Daemon Prince and he will take up a ton of points. At about 2000 points you can get a "real" Daemon Prince and take up about 1/4 of your army. It's a good way to suck up a lot of points. They generally aren't as good as Heralds, but they can be cool models and fun to stomp around going RAR RAR!

HoT, Mater of Sorcery - Lore of Life/Light 140
HoK 100

29 Bloodletters FC Icon of Endless Rage 403
20 Horrors -Musician 246

3 Flamers 105

994

This should be a good starter list, fairly cheap too 3 boxes of letters 2 boxes of horrors, maybe swap a horror for an extra blood letter. This guy here makes a good HoT: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat640010a&prodId=prod1250028a maybe grab skulltaker for a herald of khorne.

HoT goes into the horrors making a strong bunker for him, I would go life so you can heal your bloodletters, this will allow you to horde them if you want for that first turn of combat when they will have hatred with the HoK. Flamers are the best rares in the book, as you move up in points max them out.

Battalion could be worth splitting if you know someone who is in need of daemonettes, I think daemonettes and seekers fair better in 40k so you might have someone interested, also realize CSM players might be interested in daemonettes as well as dark elf and beastmen players as they convert well into harpies.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Personally I think Light/Life are great lores to use.

I've tried seekers and I find them ok, but not great as of yet. Only played two games with them.

Flamers are good. but in your list I think you would be better off with 2 solo fiends running around over a unit of 3 flamers. Even more so at low point values. They can charge from long distance. have high I and solid combat stats, allocate attacks on other enemies heroes doods. They are money and are my money makers.
