Soul Hunter and Blood Reaver are my favorite, I'm super stoked for Void Stalker to finish the trilogy. They're not exactly the best books for people new to 40k though.

Eisenhorn trilogy. Best I've ever read.

My favorite is A Thousand Sons personally, though if you are new to 40k that might be a bad place to start.

I thought the Eisenhorn series was great, and would highly recommend it. It's a better starting point too, IMO.

Overall my favorite is the Ravenor trilogy.

The book that made my jaw drop was Legion.

The books never to read... Souldrinkers. Worst novels ever.

My favorite magazine article was the WD with the "new" Eldar Falcon on the cover. There is a great battle report Ultramarines/Gaurd vs Tyranids. The short story beforehand is quite memorable.

There are quite a few excellent BL books, the HH series is excellent.

Thousand Sons/Prospero Burns is top

The Gaunt's Ghosts line is excellent as is the Eisenhorn trilogy

The First Heretic is by far the best non-Abnett Book

If I was ranking authors

Abnett is tops (though not every book is a homerun), then Sandy Mitchell and Graham McNeil are very very good, and ADB is best author on the rise, as I find TFH to be an incredible work.

After reading Cadian Blood I thought "I've got to keep an eye on this Aaron Dembski Bowden guy" but after the Night Lords books he cemented himself as my favorite BL writer. I like his stuff even more than Abnett's or Mitchell's. I'm reading Helsreach right now and it's a little uneven, but very good.

The entire Space Marine Battles series is so different in objective that it's a little tough to evaluate. As a whole I read them like a detailed/fluffed AAR instead of a novel. So far they are all good, but not great.

Eisenhorn is the best, bar none.

Followed by Ravenor, its one of my favorite 6 book series.

It's really quite good, and puts a whole new spin on an old idea. For the same reason, Prospero Burns is pretty amazing at really making Space Wolves believable. And (non-Heresy) Titanicus does about the same for the Mechanicum.

The Ciaphas Cain series by Sandy Mitchell, uses the wonderfully dark humor that I have always loved in the 40k universe.

Titan God Machine (graphic novel) an amazing read with great artwork a a fantastic story about the crew of a Titan.

Redemption Corp was hilariously over the top in macho-action-movie style staring the Imperial Guard.

The Dark Hersey Series is also good (by the same author as Ciaphas Cain), A little more serious then CC, but still, some great moments and good characters.
