Subject: Necron Crypteks, upgrades and how to use

In this thread we discuss about new Necron Crypteks, so what are the absolute "must have" upgrades for them and how should these abilities and units be used?
I my self like both of the free replacements for the staff of light (sounds good as a free item), also the other weapons seem like good opportunities. In my opinion it would be good to get a solarpulse, since I can get night fight rules on/off (If I use solarpulse while the night fight rules are on effect does it also turn the night fight rules OFF for my enemy? And if the solar pulse is used to get night fight rules ON does it effect to me also?).
I just started looking at these units and they seem to be very powerfull, just don't know how to use them yet.

I would say all the weapon upgrades are pretty decent, except for the Aeonstave.
You really need to build your Crypteks, into the rest of your list. They can provide outstanding support.
For instance, Using the Tremorstaves in concert with the C'tans Writhing Worldscape, is very powerful.
You could use a unit of 4 Lances, and one with a Chronometron. This let's you reroll a miss, or a Vehicle Pen roll, or (Possibly needs to be FAQD) a Roll on the vehicle damage chart. In my opinion, that's better than an extra lance. It makes them like mobile Longfangs, with a Better AP.

Is the lance actually a lance weapon? Cause the Eldrith lance doesnt have the lance in the weapon type but it seems like it should. Either way, I think four of them guys with a chrono could be awesome!

I feel that has to be a typo. I hope they FAQ. Its got the word "Lance" in the title and its a S8 AP2 weapon...LIKE A LANCE NORMALY IS! WHY?! I just find it unsettling. If it looks like poo, smells like poo, then it probably is poo.

If it was lance they would be to powerful. The 4x lance shenanigans/chronometron would be a great idea. Also Tremorstaff spam with the C'Tan is a solid concept.
Other than that specific wargear benefits specific units in various obvious manners

If Crypteks had more attacks the Aeonstave would probably be a good one to have for IC nerfing. :(
Right now I think Tremor Stave and the Eldritch Lance are probably the best two to equip them with. However, all the rest (minus Aeonstaves) can be very useful. And before anyone starts hating on the Abyssal staff, remember, it's pretty much an AP1 flamer.

Building on the Abyssal staff idea, consider putting it in a Deathmark squad. Thats an Ap 1 flamer that wounds on a 2+ for a specific squad(more then one if you have multiple deathmark squads). If you manage to deepstrike next to them, that could be a whole enemy squad dead.
Now before people say you can't do this, Crypteks are not IC. They are just upgrade units. If you follow GW precedence on this matter for space wolves when crypteks join a unit they become that unit for all intents and purposes.
When i refer to the matter of space wolves i'm talking about Wolf guard pack leaders, who had the choice of joining a unit before the game started, just like crypteks. if you want to see the FAQ concerning them just follow the link below and read the first two questions on page 2.

Does it really go like that? I mean if you add a cryptek or IC into a deathmarks unit do they really get the DS and Hunters from Hyperspace special rules? Does it go the same way with other units that in their rules tell their "unit" gets to for example DS, also gives their special rules (in this case the DS) to the IC (or cryptek) that is part of their unit?

This doesn't work for independent characters as mentioned in the FAQ and the general rulebook. Crypteks are not IC so it's legal for them based on what GW has ruled in the past. Just read the parts of the FAQ i said to and it spells it out plain as day. Basically you gotta think of Crypteks as being the equivalent of SM sergeants, someone who belongs in the squad but has some extra wargear and slightly different stats. They join the squad before the game starts and can not leave, ergo upgrade character. The general rulebook doesn't talk about stuff like this because they probably didn't see units like Wolf guard pack leaders and Royal courts being created, thats why they discussed it in the Space wolves FAQ when similar questions came up back then.
IC do not get their units special rules conferred upon them, or confer special rules on any squad they join unless stated in their description. Check page 48 in the rulebook for that info.

I don't have my codex with me right now but how was it, do crypteks have reanimation protocolls or were thay everliving? I mean if the whole unit dies (where is a cryptek) but cryptek survives do the other models that were with the cryptek (such as deathmarks) get to roll their reanimation protocolls and join the battle again with the cryptek eaven if they all have been killed?

Termorstaff & C'Tan synergies are obvious.
But C'Tan aside, Termorstaff with Deathmarks might give you some sniping/pinning synergies to the difficult terrain? Or not? Seismic crucible might also (on the odd occassion) make Deathmarks more difficult to charge when they drop in.

Tried this combo last night vs black templar, I don't really recommend it... it was waaayyy too many points and didn't do enough. It made my opponent angry on the first turn when he lost a few of his guys, and then on turn 2 he lost a couple more, but once he got on my side of the board and learned that staying in the open and using his land raider as cover, he pretty much won... my scarabs didn't land anything on the land raider before getting mulched down by str 6 guns.

Id chalk up not killing the Land raider to luck or using only 2 or 3 bases. I had a 13 base unit run through an entire Tau army without blinking. They multicharged vehicles and assorted dozens of firewarriors without much thought. Plus there was about 1000 points of shooting picking off stuff. Id say try that again and see how it goes. If the combo kills off anything its good. The Diviner isnt a slouch in CC and can babysit an objective pretty well regardless.
