Hey All,
Dug out my out Night Lords from 3rd Edition and cleaned them up a bit. Got the new Chaos book also to see if I could come up with some kind of army list. I've been reading up a bit on their background again to get a refresher and I understand they're more a no-mutation and undivided group, however it does say there are some mutation and they do work with the powers of chaos so long as it benefits their overall outcome. My questions are these:

Would it be un-fluffy to have a Daemon Prince as an HQ for the Night Lords? I know in the stories one guy was promoted to such. I had my old Chaos Lord I modded out with huge demon wings(so much I had to put him on a larger 40mm base) that I figured I could use as a Daemon Prince instead. The body is the basic body of the Cypher model with some modifications. How would that work.

Would I be able to use Marks of Chaos? I know the general opinion is Mark of Chaos Glory but I was thinking about the Mark of Khorne and it's fluff-aspect towards the murderous and brutal nature of the Night Lords as a whole. I thought about Slaanesh only because the Night Haunter and Fulgrim were fairly close, but I don't know how fluffy that would be instead. I like Tzeentch but I can't see how that'd fit in. What are your thoughts? I want to make a list that stays fairly true to the army as I like the aspect of the Night Lords, but I'd like to win some of the time also. Thanks!

Edit: Third thought: I'm assuming Sorcerers are pretty much out to keep with fluff. I have a neat Sorcerer on Bike model but I guess I could just use it as an aspiring champion.

It wouldn't be entirely unfluffy to have a daemon prince or marks of Chaos. If you've read the Night Lords series from black library then you'll see a Daemon Prince is featured called the Exalted who commands a force of Night Lords, and also that over time and exposure to the warp that some Night Lords do start to exhibit the signs of Chaos God worship or at least corruption. One by the name of Uzas keeps on displaying signs of khornate devotion (skulls for the skull throne etc)

As the Night Lords split into many warbands you can essentially do what you want with them, if you want some that have started devoting themselves to the Chaos Gods then I don't see many people getting angry at that. But if you want to keep them pure thats an option to

It's a common misconception that the Night Lords are organized and universally despise Chaos. That was before the death of Curze. Since then they have fractured into many warbands of varying sizes, beliefs and goals. It's entirely within reason to make a Night Lords army that has a Daemon Prince as the HQ. The only thing that really separates the Night Lord's from the rest is their use of terror tactics. Obviously there's not a lot to work with in the abomination that is Codex: Chaos Space Marines, the best way would be Raptors and jump-packs for your Lord, probably Lightning Claws on the Terminators, that seems to fit well.

I use a lot with wings (Had a retiune all modded with bat wings and my Chaos Lord/Daemon Prince had huge wings). I have two 5 man raptor squads and an 8 man retinue with wings. Also got a squad of bikes and am focusing on fast, decisive, and brutal combat with them. Thanks for the responses so far, and I love to hear more ideas on what might sound good and playable.

This is fine, Dhar'leth was a Daemon prince of the Night Lords that sided with Abaddon. Also Lord Percilitor, mentioned in the previous dex was a Daemon Prince too.

I don't see why not. Your warband could be one that utilizes Chaos rather than shuns it, it's all about fear with the Night Lords and I don't think there would be many things scarier than a Daemonic looking bat winged frothing madman screaming like a banshee as it charges at you with a chainsword. There are some characters in the Night Lords series that are touched by chaos, Cyrion by Slaanesh, Uzas by Khorne and Vandred the Exhalted by Tzeentch.

They have Sorcerers too so I wouldn't worry.

No pity, no remorse, no shoes
