I was reading around the SM codex and found a reference to the 'Iron Warriors' under a named HQ from the Imperial Fists. They didn't act that friendly to the Imperial Fist guy which I thought was strange because I thought that Iron Warriors were a SM chapter. Could anyone Clarify who they are?

Also, same as again, I always thought Black Templar's were SM but apparently not. Who are they?

The Iron Warriors are a Traitor Legion of Chaos Space Marines.

They're a 2nd founding chapter of the Imperial Fists, they're very much Space Marines.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

ok, so darnath lysander is who you speak of, the 1st company captain of the imperial fists.

the imperial fists are a first founding chapter (one of the original 20 legions) that fought in the great crusade

the iron warriors had a rather strong rivalry with the imperial fists due to their competing specialties, both were masters of the siege, but where the fists specialized in the defenses during a siege, the warriors specialized in the assault during a siege. these specializations are what caused the emperor to call the imperial fists back to Terra to fortify the imperial palace in preparation for Horus' treachery in the horus heresy, this happened before the fall however, thus Perterabo was very jealous, in fact this is what led to his fall to chaos.

the rivalry before the fall turned into an outright hatred after the fall of Horus.

after the fall of Horus and the turning of the legions the legions where to be broken up, Dorn didn't like this so he attacked some iron warriors in an event called the iron cage (i won't get into that) it basically was to cleanse the wounds of the legion, after the event there were only about 4000 veteran marines left, they where split into four chapters, the most zealous where led by the first emperor's champion Sigismund, the then captain of the first company of imperial fists, his personal colors where white on black, thus the colors of the Templar. the most level headed went to the crimson fists, and the most willing to fight within the codex Astartes became the new imperial fists chapter, the remaining became soul drinkers, curse their traitorous name.

so they are all space marines, or rather once where, the iron warriors are now chaos space marines.

renegade space marines that are either liked or detested in the fluff, they had some of dorn's relics in their posession and they had the gall to lose them and then fire on imperial forces to regain them, then became renegade, had some fights internally due to chaos taint and claim to hate chaos, i just think they are traitors to the emperor and must be killed on sight.

So they're against the IoM? And are they actually Chaos?

No the Soul Drinkers believe that they still serve the Imperium. So it really depends on how you see it. Since they were tricked by Tzeentch for a while, some see them as Chaos Renegades. However most of the chapter sees themselves as still following the will of the Emperor

Sheesh, this is why C:SM should have a little more fluff about the first foundings and heresy! They're critical to grasping the entire concept of Space Marines

The Black templar are very much space marines. They are the emperors crusading knights. They are one of the only chapters that are still on the eternal crusade. Their marines are called something different than tactical marines and they dont have a home world ( they are a fleet based chapter) but they are very much space marines. very zealots ones at that too.

The Emperor extends His will to us when we destroy the wicked and impure to reconquer the galaxy in His name. The Emperor leads the galaxy to righteousness, and thus we must petition for His judgement on the wicked... for it is judgement without mercy..

Iron Wariors were one of the original twenty legions, just like the Imperial Fists. They had a rivalry which, when the Iron Warriors sided with Horus during the Heresy, became outright violence.

Not to be confused with the Iron HANDS, who are another of the original twenty Legions who stayed loyal to the Emperor (the Iron HANDS are the bionic ones).

The Black Templars are a second founding Chapter of loyal Space Marines descended from the Imperial Fists. Although loyal, they are one of the chapters that refuse to follow the Codex Astartes, and instead place themselves on permanent crusade, and organise themselves appropriately.

The Soul Drinkers are a much later founding Chapter who got involved in various politics that saw them fire on friendly Imperials and are now considered Renegade by Imperial authorities. They still consider themselves loyal.

acording to my research the soul drinkers are pretty well gone, and defeated by a coalition of the sons of dorn.

Soul Drinkers are also second founding actually. And also descended from the Imperial Fist. At least by origin, they are twins to the Black Templars.

Also, though probably not the page referenced by the OP, the current Space Marine Codex also makes note of the IF-successor Chapter Iron Knights in that Imperial Fist-successor-only tournament thingy they have going on.
