I have no codex as I'm at work... but...

HQ:
Vulkan He'Stan
Master of the Forge

Troops:
Tac Squads with combi flamer/melta, PF, flamers - mounted in Rhinos
Maybe scout squad for deep striking

Elites/Heavies:
1 Squad Assault Termies maxed with TH/SS - mounted in high capacity LR
5 Dreds MM/HF/DCCW mounted in 5 Drop pods with melta/flamer or whatever they can have

FA:
Speeders with MM

Legal? Critique? Thanks... DrG

Tac squad should be in a pod as well IMO. Why not DS the terminators too.

I just feel all drop pods or no drop pods.

Thanks Balsak,
You are a night owl too I see... So if points are no object, and to balance the 5 dreds and full squad of assault termies:
1. How many tac squads ya think?
2. No Scouts?
3. Speeders?

Well I ask you do you really need the terminators?

I would say at least 3 Tac squads at 1500 and above.

Scouts are ok, but again goes back to my feeling of all pods or no pods.

Speeders could be ok again but I think they should be DS'ed in a list like this. Which in turn makes them alittle useless.

This is what I was thinking for a list that maximizes dreads and strernguard.

He'stan
MoTF: PW, Combi-melta

Sternguard x5: Combi-Melta(He'stan)
-Sgt: Combi-Melta
-Drop Pod: Beacon
Sternguard x5: Combi-Melta(MoTF)
-Sgt: Combi-Melta
-Drop Pod: Beacon
Dread: MM, HF
-Drop Pod: Beacon

Tac squad x10:Meltagun, MM
-Sgt: PF, Combi-Melta
-Drop Pod
Tac squad x10:Meltagun, MM
-Sgt: PF, Combi-Melta
-Drop Pod
Tac squad x10:Meltagun, MM
-Sgt: PF, Combi-Melta
-Drop Pod

Dread: MM, HF
-Drop Pod
Dread: MM
-Drop Pod
Dread: MM
-Drop Pod

This is 2k. I made the sternguard small squads for 2 reasons. 1) to get another Pod. Now 5 come down first turn. 2) I was thinking of making one a AT squad then one a AI squad. Honestly changed that thought it might be better to go all meltas.

I think the list is pretty straight forward. Just mass meltas and dreads.

Ok I assume with have all gone through the dangers and pitfalls of drop pod lists.

You have no ranged attack or alternative deployment if there is any interesting play from the enemy.
If the enemy sits still you are fine otherwise you are open.

Ok so what do you mean?

I have used my Drop Pod army to great effect. Allthough mine is a SW army I don't think it would change that much.

You don't need range when you are dropping in there face.

HIDING IN METAL BAWKSES!

Personally, I prefer Tac Squads in Rhinos and the Sternies in a Razorback.

Some time ago I came up with a Vulkan list, and got some feedback here on Dakka.

If you want I can either post it here, or send it to you. Send me a PM if you are interested.

What happens if they are not on the field? What happens if they run away. Then proceed to shoot you whilst you try to run into range. Or against nids where you really want to be at arms length.

Also you can get a meat shield between you and the things you really want to kill. There is a whole range of things that the enemy can pull out, you just need to be prepared.

Ok well the way I play drop pod is cut off half of his army if I can. By doing that he has to go through my pods. and he losses half of his potential as well. Is this always going to happen? No probably not but that is what makes a Drop Pod army a tough one to play.

If they are not on the field. Its simple. First I look and see what he/she has. Then I see how fast is he from reserve. Does he outflank. If all these are to my liking I drop towards the middle of the table. If its an objective game then I would pick an objective or 2 thats are close together and hold them. He has to come out. If he waits to bring in reserves then I have a couple of extra turns to move and get into position.

Nids are another problem indeed. Luckily I have not had to face that.

Anyways Good Luck!
