So I've been reading around and there seems to be a consensus that Mechanized Blood Angels suck. Not in terms of competitiveness, but in terms of originality and fun. The general argument is that Mech Blood Angels typically means Razor spam...something that almost any SM army can do. So playing a list like that is basically just playing 'fast' vanilla SM - why bother playing Blood Angels at all?
Whether or not I agree with that, I'm not entirely sure. What I do know is that I don't want to be hated for playing my army (I'm currently considering Blood Angels).

Here's my dilemma...I like the idea of playing 'fast' Vindicators. I think it adds another level of strategy and isn't dumb in any way. Baal Predators are something that no other army has access to and I think they're "neat" (for lack of a better term). Stormravens are nearly unique to Blood Angels and they're freakin' awesome.

So for no other reason than "I like them", I'd like to play Vindicators, Baal Predators, and a Stormraven. Here's my question - Is it possible to build a decently competitive BA army using those models that would NOT turn into Razorback spam? Or is it possible to build a Mechanized BA list that isn't considered boring and unfun? Thanks!

(For reference, here's the list I've been playing with: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/409044.page)

I dont know as competetive this can be, but for sure its fun at 1850p:

HQ:
Meph

E:
5 x Aterms (3TH/SS)
1 x Sang Priest (TDA)

T:
2 x 10xASM (2melta,PF)

F:
2 x Baal Pred (AC or FC)

H:
Vindie
2xSR (MM,AC,ExA)

you have still 25p to play with...

To me fun BA mech is a wall of AV13 minimum: Furioso dreads in elite, Baal Preds in fast, Vindis / Preds in heavy, sprinkle in a few LRs as transports.

Back when the Witch Hunter codex was still around with ally shenanigans, I was running a triple bhaal predator list, with the callidus assassin, if you got first turn you'd use "word in your ear" to move their expensive power armoured unit into a flame shape.. scout forwards with the flamestorm cannons and umm.. remove the offending unit.

Now 'days we arn't allowed such fun :(.. But I still think 3 vindicators + 3 bhaal predators + dreadnaught in HQ & Elite is very playable.. if a tad vulnerable to the billion meltaguns that everyone and their mum seems to be carrying..

Tournament Results:

Throne of Skulls (Jan 2012) 5/0/0
X Legion (Feb 2012) 3/1/2 13/40
6th ed score: (15/2/3)
Chaos New Codex: (9/2/1)
Dark Eldar & GK: (0/0/0)

I've been thinking of running a sanguinary guard BA army, with 6 predators to provide an armor wall for the first turn while the army moves up

just a thought

I will easily run 3 Vindies, 2 Baals, and a few assault squads behind them. Vindies and baal's open stuff up, and clear out tough units, and then the Assault squads clean up.

You could eaily run

1 Storm Raven with DC, DC Dread, 2 Vindies, a few baals, with a couple assault marines for scoring.

Just to say razorback spam is different in all codices. You may want to have DoA to do the antitank and then razorbacks to provide antiinfantry: that is the craziness of BA razorbackspam.

i have no idea about storm ravens. Except to say you need at least two, you might as well have dreads being carried as well.

Good luck. love Fletch.
