This is a 1250 point guard list intended to be highly competitive. I have never used a list like this before, but it mirrors off of actual U.S. military tactics.

CCS
4x Melta
Chimera

VS
3x Melta
Chimera

VS
3x Melta
Demolitions
Chimera

VS
3x Melta
Demolitions
Chimera

LRBT

LRBT

Vendetta

Vendetta

This is as modern a list as I can cook up with any resemblence to real military formations. Please any help is appritiated.

Only having 3 troop choices is kinda scary, but to add in more will cost you vehicles. If you have an objective game, are you going to hold a troop back or are you going to push forward? The demolitions is neat, but I could see those points used for a advisor and or other equipment.

If you do decide to keep a troop back to camp a home objective, consider dropping a demolitions for a AC on the camping unit and then get Stubbers for the LRBTs or the attacking vet Chimeras.

Should I assume those attacking Chimeras have hull heavy flamers? If not, they should. The only time to leave the hull HB is on a camping unit.

You suggest stubbers? really? people seem so against pintle mounts. I may not like you Tom, mostly becouse you come off a bit course, but I do get the feeling you know what your talking about. Thanks for the advice.

The chimeras would idealy pish forward. The goal of this list is to quickly take out enemy vehicles and chase the enemy off the board. Or atleast that was the first thing I immagined in the movie style trailer that played in my head when I first thought of fielding this army.

I am also against pintle mounts if there are better choices for those points, but there isn't in a list like yours. It all dependant if you were going to hold a unit back or not to hold a objective. Your not so the point is moot.

Then really make sure you have those heavy flamers to burn out cover saved troops camping their objectives. You may even want to consider it on the LRBTs. If you can't get them off those objectives you will lose.

The word your looking for is coarse, as in unrefined or rough. Don't worry though, my spelling sucks as well.

Ha ha he does give good advice though - and quite often rips the out of people what don't read the OP - gives me hours of joy!

Re the number of troop choices I don't think I've ever played 1250 points, so you may be ok with just 3. Problem is, if the chimera blows up at least half of the squad inside will die. If you move up to 1500 I'd be looking at 1, if not 2 more vet squads.

Personally I don't like LRBT (game-wise - love the fluff). I've never found they do me too much harm as an opponent either.

Yea the army is supposed to be optomized for PAX convention in Boston. They run a yearly 1250 40k tournament there. I actually prefer lower point games. 1500 is the highest point level I find fun. Past that the board feels to conjested, and it starts feeling more like a fantasy battle to me.

Sorry to bring this back to the top of the board, but I have a valid question. I want to turn this into a 2000 Point list, but I'm curious how competitive it will be with the following additions.

The list will be the above +

Astropath to the existing CCS

CCS
4x Melta
Astropath
Officer of the Fleet
Chimera

Vet Squad
3x Melta
Chimera

Vet Squad
3x Melta
Demolitions
Chimera

Vet Squad
3x Melta
Demolitions
Chimera

So that would give me 2 HQ, 6 Troops, 2 Fast, and 2 Heavy. And would give the Vendettas +2 to come in from reserves and the ability to reroll outflank.

Are you sure you want to outflank your Vendettas? They really should be on the board Turn 1 giving you long range AT. That is when you /really/ need them anyways. Turn 2, if your opponent is an attacking list, should be getting into Melta range.

For 65pts, you could get Marbro or if you drop the Demolitions and the two Astropaths, you could get another Vet squad and upgrade some meltas to plasma guns.

At 2000pts, you should even consider a third Vendetta, as a third source of long range AT isn't a terrible option.

Well I couldn't get another Vet Squad could I? I already have 6 Troops, But I am Toying away with the idea of 3 Vendettas, or perhapse a Basilisk, or a third Lemon Russ. I do like the Demolitions though, even the people who see it comming are more often then not supprised by it. Maybe another Officer of the fleet instead. I agree with you about the Vedettas, but what If I go second? They will be oblitorated...

Two reasons...

2-3 of them gives you redundancy. If they choose to fire on them, any who survive can still do their job.

This also means they are not firing on your Chimeras or LRBT. That is why having a 7th Melta Vet squad is not a bad thing either, as the core of your list are the Vets, and that is what will do the most damage.

At 30pts per Advisor, I wouldn't bother doubling up on them. There are better things to buy. Upgrading the CCSs to plasma guns are a better way to spend the points for example.

I do recall having more then 6 Troop choices as being against the rules, or atleast thats what this one here says... You can not have more then 6 Vet Squads in this current edition.

Good point on the redundancy, but what if they are SW or Tau or DE, they can kill my Vendettas and a Chimera or 2 turn one... Chimeras and Russ's can hide behind terrain, but Vendettas are a little too tall to pull that off. If they are the only target, and they often would be in this situation, they will get owned. Or that is how I feel. I should like to play test this out and see how it goes.

But hey if those are the only problems you forsee then I call this a hell of a good list then. I can't wait to get an extra $500 for the 4 new squads/tanks.

I would like to add my 1250 list is well on its way to greatness. Thank you to everyone who gave advice on it. I will post pics soon, they are heavily converted, or rather will be.
