I was reading through the rules last night, trying to figure out why you'd want to Deep Strike in your opponent's turn.

Can a unit of Necrons that Deep Strike in the opponents turn shoot in the opponent's turn? If so in what order?

The reason I ask is that there are numerous abilites (the Deathmarks and Zahndrekh) that allow you to Deep Strike in the opponent's turn.

The Rules for Deep Strike state the following:

'In that turn's Shooting phase, these units [the ones that Deep Strike in that turn] can fire (or run) as normal, and obviously count as having moved in the previous Movement phase. Vehicles count as having moved at cruising speed.'

So by direct reading they could shoot (or run) in the opponent's turn - as there's nothing that states otherwise other than logic against the IGOUGO system (there's nothing about it in the rulebook FAQ either). If this were the case then it would beg the question - in what order do they do so? This question isn't covered in the Codex, so I presume they just Deep Strike and do nothing other than get shot at or assaulted? If they can shoot in the opponent's turn - wouldn't they do so in Initiative order?

Also can Triarch Praetorians Deep Strike? They do not have the rule in their entry but are Jump Infantry and the Rulebook FAQ says all Jump Infantry can Deep Strike - so I presume they can?

It just seems odd to have such a prevalent ability when it would seem to be a negative one to do

Thanks

Can fire "as normal". You normally only fire on your turn in the shooting phase.

I suspect this will be answered come sixth edition, because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense right now.

But for the moment, Nos has got it right.

Yeah I just realised what that wording would imply

I hope it's altered for 6th Ed, it's just such a strong theme in the 'dex. It would be great if they could - I might try it in Initiative order to see how it would work out if it was the case

If you DS in your opponent's turn, you count as stationary during your own.

Lost somewhere between the M4 and the M40

It also meant you can now move in your turn to get into a better position.

Yeah, you potentially weather a turn of shooting from your opponent in exchange for being able to Deep Strike and still fire at full effect with those units' Rapid Fire weapons, or move effectively after Deep Striking.

Rumors say that deathmarks will be able to shoot in the opponent's turn in 6th ed. Who knows though.

Why wait until 6th edition when a simple one line rule in the codex would have permitted it now?

I've been running a Nemesor Zahndrekh army ... Enemy lands a drop pod ... I deep strike 3 monoliths ... He really has one of the best sets of rules in the game.

Probably because it would have to be significantly more than 1 line. They'd need to work out timing issues on who shoots first, and it would need to make sense in whatever the new rules are in 6th.

Plus, we're not that far away from 6th edition now. Necrons can wait a bit to get their full rule benefits.

If we have to wait for 6th for such a rule, then it will be a general rule of some sort.

If it is not a basic rule in the 6th ed BRB; then they will not be getting such a rule until the end of 7th ed(or 8-9 years, whichever comes last).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

"A unit of Deathmarks arriving from Deep Strike in the opponents turn may immediately shoot, counting as having moved.". One line. The only way I could see them needing to wait for 6th edition is if they do something drastic like alternating actions or somesuch.
