I get the point of redeemer for fluffy purposes but i'd go with a god hammer personally...seeing as your playing vulcan you can use some ranged fire...

For the Sternies, I think the best way would be to have 2 of them in pods, each one equipped with 3 combi-meltas and 2 meltaguns. I personally would prefer Razorbacks for the Sternies, but since you have pods for your Tac Squads, give the Sternies pods too.

People will say to give them all combi-weapons because of the special ammunition, but I would prefer to have my dedicated AT squad to be able to take out tanks for more than 1 turn. Plus they benefit from Vulkans Chapter Tactics.

If I wanted something that I did not care that it only lasted 1 turn, I would get a Attack Bike with MM for 50 points. About 1/4 the price, and almost as good.

If you have the space/money for it, 2-3 MM Attack Bikes would be a good choice, and/or with a MM Speeder. With Vulkans rule, you get cheap, fast AT. With those 2 Attack Bikes you have a good chance of taking out a LR with 2 re-rollable MM, for less then half the cost of the LR.

HIDING IN METAL BAWKSES!

Quick question: are you using Vanguards because of stats or looks? Answer this, and I will help with them...kinda.

I also think that you should switch out the Assault Squad for a LSS for your Scouts. Will be more effective, as then you can use the homer to greater effect.

Based on the fact that you have a homer, I also think everything that can be mounted in a pod should be. If you don't mind, I think tomorrow I will come up with my own 1500 point list following your style and see how you like it, ok?

I think you just forgot to state that there are transports. You did add in the points for them, just forgot to say that you put them in.

My questions still apply (Vanguards and me making a list). I also still think you should take out the Assault Squad and put in a LSS.

first of all thanks for all the great help
the landspeeder storm is a good idea i might go with, but i already have the assault squad so that might be an issue
the problem with the vangaurd is that i have always liked them and have already made fully converted models for them, I can change their loadout around but would like to still have the squad in the army
finally i am getting drop pods for the two tactical squads and for the sterngaurd, just forgot to add the points on
if you wouldn't mind making a new list that would be great, like i said this is my first army and i am very noobish

thanks, senorcody

1 vangaurd squad with 4 TH and 1 LC
1 attack bike with MM
1 dreadnought with MM and HF
1 landspeeder with MM
1 rhino
1 drop pod
two tactical squads with previous loadout
1 scout squad
6 bike guys
and i might be getting 15 assault terminators,1 more attack bike, vulkan and 1 librarian in terminator armour

Automatically Appended Next Post:
i also have enough parts to make two 5 men sterngaurd squads and am willing two invest in a landraider of any kind,or two

feel free two mix and match the stuff and choose what would be good in an army, thanks

HIDING IN METAL BAWKSES!

Ok, here is a list that I came up with. There is 15 points left over to customize something, and feel free to change this as you see fit. It is YOUR army after all.

HQ
[190] - Vulkan He'stan

ELITES
[200] - Terminator Assault Squad with TH/SS
[150] - Dreadnought with HF, MM, mounted in a Drop Pod

TROOPS
[230 PER] - 2x 10-man Tactical squad with flamer, MM, sarge has combi-melta, PF, and melta bombs, mounted in a Drop Pod

FAST ATTACK
[220] Vanguard Assault Squad with TH/SS, sarge has LC

HEAVY SUPPORT
[265] - Land Raider Redeemer with MM and extra armor

Honestly, I think you could do without the PF in the Tac Squads. You have plenty of AT in the rest of the list. In place of those, I would take the Land Speeder with MM, which brings the points to 1495 points.

I think you should have some scouts with combat blades and a teleport homer. Catch the enemy in close combat then drop termies down right next to them. When able go into assault and all hell will break loose!

Would be cheaper too, as then you do not need the LR to transport Vulkan and the Termies, and just stick Vulkan with a podding Sternies squad.

Get some long range fire support too. A whirlwind or something. Codex SM is most useful when mixed, but lots of your weaponry is short ranged. If you go up against an army with lots of guns (Tau emp, IG, etc) you are screwed.

That is kinda the point of Vulkan. If you are long ranged, then someone else would be more useful, such as Kantor.

Yeah you can only have 3elites but if you make the sternguard one big unit and combat squad them when you get down you will be fine all the same points, just wondering how where the strenguard with flamers going to get to there board edge anyway, with no pod?

oh yeah,i included the points for the two pods in the sterngaurd but just forgot to list them, also can i still do combat squads even though i have vulkan,if not what do you suggest

thanks, senorlopez

No you can still combat squad, cause your doing that you cant have the two heavy flamers and melta guns so i would think your beat off just taking 2meltas and all combie-meltas, then you still got 65p(pod,2xheavy flamers) you could get ready of that 5ps your over with and then get a extra terminator it is always fun to have more hammers! now you have 15p left get a locator beacon for one of your pods! my input

Ok so I have been thinking and I have come up with this. I think this might suit what you are trying to do. This is only to help and in no ways telling you to take this list. It is really only to help give you another take on a list.

He'stan
MoTF: PW, Combi-melta

Sternguard x7: 2x Combi-Melta (He'stan, MoTF) (Or what ever you feel like)
-Sgt: PF
-Drop Pod
Terminators x5: TH/SS

Tac squad x10:Meltagun, MM
-Sgt: Combi-Melta
-Drop Pod
Tac squad x10:Meltagun, MM
-Sgt: Combi-Melta
-Drop Pod

Dread: MM, HF
-Drop Pod
Dread: MM, HF
-Drop Pod

This gives you 3 Pods coming down first turn. I feel that this is a decent Salamanders list. If I was to run a slamanders list, I think this is what I would bring. I also don't think vanguards have anything to do with salamanders. But thats just me.

I am sorry i don't understand what you mean. Clearify the sternguard?

There are 7 of them. 2 have combi-meltas and the sgt has a PF. Thats it simple and cheap.

Its still going to be tough to use. I do think it could be a winning list.
